It's a bit late for internships as most of the paid ones were full already in April, and the ones that are unpaid are filling up if not already full. (I know because I had this issue trying to help out my sister in law last year)
apartments where you are looking are expensive, not impossible to find one but they won't be cheap at all.
craigslist is my only suggestion, or the village voice.
