We use Compaq (now hp) servers at my work. They have been very stable for us. Are you just looking for a file server? I would check out their website.
You could get by with a beefed up workstation. However, the redundancy of a server would result in more stability. Anyhow, my vote is to go buy a entry level server from compaq. However, there are more options than you can shake a stick at. You will hear from the other folks on this board as to what their opinions are.
Now if it were me, I would build a domain with a pdc, bdc, WINS, DNS, etc.
This would be a huge overkill for your situation.
