I own and have read through both Williams series mentioned above. Personally, I liked Otherland more than the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn Trilogy, but that's just because I like sf more than fantasy. I agree that Williams could have cut about 500 pages from Otherland, but I think that the plot twists alone made it worth reading through.

if you haven't read it, think "Memento meets The Cell." or something similar.
