depends on the band. I can't see going to a Jimmy Buffet concert in an arena, I just doesn't fit. However, blues or jazz is at it's best in small, smokey clubs. Big power rock bands really shine at arenas.
Over all, I prefer bluesy rock played at small, smokey clubs.
