well you should not have just bought it with out checkig into it, but since it worked more power to you...
basicly you should have checked with the MB maker and goten a BIOS update for the MB, that should alow you to hit it up to any 266 (i think 2400 is the break)
i did this just a while ago and i poped a 2400 into an old ECS board. it would not post, i droped the old 1700 in and i updated the bios, put the 2400 back in and it worked beautifly.
