The drooping eyelid and visual problems are neurologic in nature and worrisome, although the remaining complaints could be due to a benign inner ear problem. She needs a neurological exam, and most likely an MRI of the head.
If she had a good relationship with the neurologist, it certainly is not unethical for him to take a look at her au gratis. Is he aware of her insurance problems? Most doctors put the welfare of thier patients ahead of financial concerns(most good ones anyway).
Also has she looked into applying for public assistance? She will need some type of coverage as the workup is expensive and treatment even more so.
As far as the arguement of being uninsurable in the future, if the condition is benign, then she is not as much an insurance risk and it should have no effect on insurance in the future. If the condition is more serious, then it is important to get it treated regardless of future insurance concerns.
