Tragedy for an infant
Over this last weekend in a small town in Illinois A young couple discovered their puppy dragging what appeared to be a dead animal around their yard. However, when they got a closer look they were horrified to see that the dog had, in fact, been dragging around the body of a baby.
It was quite gruesome. No one is certain who's baby it is, and no one has stepped forward with any kind of information. What was given in the paper was that the baby had been burried somewhere and the puppy dug it up. It was only in it's 7th month of gestation, meaning it was a premy. The cause of death was not released.
The coroner felt compelled to give the child a name so that he wouldn't just refer to the child as "it" "he" or "the victim" (Not sure if I'd be aloud to give the name) This is the name that is to be put on his donated head stone later this week. Funeral services were all donated, and the plot was bought with money donated from local residents.
This was a horrific thing, but also is proof that most people in our state do not know that newborns can be released, no questions asked to any "safe house" including hospitals, firestations and police stations. In fact many of the designated "safe houses" are unaware of the law. This law has been in effect since 2001 and more people should know about it.
Maybe this tragedy will help others to become more aware of alternatives to dumping babies or leaving them for dead. Many people are willing to take in unwanted children and raise them if a woman or man feels they cannot assume responsibilty of their newborn.
