Music is one of the only things that keeps me close to sane. It grounds me in reality, as well as helping me escape from it when I need to. The old songs bring back memories, reminding me of where I came from, and the new ones show me, in a way, the direction I am going, and my head space at the time. I.E., I'm listening to a lot of depressing songs, what the hell is wrong with me now?
More styles then I can list. Not to big on emo and country, other then that, name a style, and I probably have at least 5 CD's of it.
A good song can bring me out of a funk when I hit one. Also, I found Rob Zombie's Super Beast is GREAT for running to.
Example, Blink182's Adam's Song. First time I heard it was right after a friend of mine killed himself. The next half hour curled up on the floor crying my eyes out and just generaly feeling like a teenage tradgidy was pretty negative in my eyes.
I'm not to sure if I can nail this one down. Kevin Gilbet, God rest his soul, has really made an impact on me. Some of the most inteligent and emotionaly hard hitting lyrics I have ever heard. He is another one that had me curled up in a ball, by the way, but some of his songs, though sad, leave me feeling a bit better about life when they are over.
I hope this helps.
