Quite simply what you eat is 85% of your diet, you can eat 3000 calories in good foods in a day and never gain a pound or you can eat 1500 calories in bad foods in a day and gain weight, you can still lose weight eating poorly but you will have very slow progress if you exercise for a hour and then eat mcdonalds as opposed to a protein shake or some fruit.
If you are really serious about losing weight then personally you should reformat your diet, losing weight is easy and fun if done right however, if you wont take the right steps in the right direction progress will be slow.
