Well, make sure you have downloaded the full version of dc, and not an upgrade.

As in, DC .7, then make sure you have the 1.6 BF patch.

As in your problem with it crashing to the desktop, make sure you have both patches. Then uninstall BF, reinstall, and apply the 1.6 patch, and then install DC .7.

It sounds like you're taking the right steps in installing, but you may have the a wrong version/download somewhere.
