well, why do you like it, any sort of weapons, tell us what your passion is, why it is, any how much shit do you get from others for it?

I love the discipline and competitive nature of shooting. I enjoy handgun and carbine/rifle combat shooting. The IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) www.idpa.com has a really good setup that just about anyone can compete in for handgun. The local club for it also runs carbine matches where I am. The social gathering and being around other shooters is great along with showing off your latest acquisition and sharing guns, it's great fun.

I don't know why, but I've always like weapons, and not just guns.

Swords, maces, axes, pole arms, bows, etc., I like them all. I can't say I am a major collector, I don't have that much to spend on my hobby, but I have examples of most of these.

I suppose part of the appeal is the power a weapon gives you, although I've never had to use one in anger or defense (nor do I want to). There is also something about the art form and shear cleverness of some weapons.

I'll be interested to see what others say.

I like loud noises, bright flashes, and putting holes in shit. There is nothing else to it.

And recoil, I totally forgot about that! Fing love the recoil! The more the better...

We survive based on a predators fear of law enforcement. If law enforcement is not present all we have is us.

It is a mans primary responsibility to protect his family. Weapons make that easier.

Since I was a tiny one, through whatever thing, I've enjoyed weapons. My mom hates them though, and we have good-natured ribbings about it.

Weapons also tend to be very (I'm sure there's a better word, but...) uh, finely-tuned I suppose? Just the amount of skill that is put into making a simple staff a deadly weapon, or the thousands of folds in a katana. The precision of firearms, and the amount of development that weapons undergo, simply because they have been so necessary throughout history. I don't think one could say that blenders have received the same amount of developmental attention that rifles have.

I guess I've always just been interested in guns and knives. I grew up in the country and we were pretty poor, so a lot of my formative years were spent running around in the woods. Knives always came in handy and shooting kind of went hand in hand with that. I don't really hunt anymore, and am really not interested in carrying a firearm for personal protection. I just really enjoy going out and shooting as often as I can. I get some flak for being interested in firearms from some of my friends that did not grow up with the same type of experiences that I have had. They've been told all their lives that guns are bad, and they have no idea why anyone would be interested in them. After all, according to what they've been told, only rednecks and criminals find guns to be useful. Funny thing is, after I've taken most of them out and taught them how to shoot safely and properly, they make me promise to tell them the next time I go out. A few of them have actually purchased firearms as well.

They are tools that let me do things that I can't do with out them.
It's in human nature to like tools. Without tools we wouldn't be here.

Nobody said you have to use a lawnmower. Try useing just your hands and teeth.

Raised in a rural community full of hunters and guns, every guy at by the age of 18 has their own rifle, or in some rare cased handgun. Mind you handguns are going to be banned in a few months since this is KKKanada.

As for the "machines" classification, I can find something that would fit your definition of "tool" I suppose (and it sure as hell isn't a machine). Screwdrivers, for example! I challenge you to find fifty people who genuinely find screwdrivers to be enjoyable.

For me, my favorite part of weaponry is the sense of independence. I know how to build a weapon from scratch at almost any technological level i could find myself at. I also know how to use them effectively. (Oddly enough, the most difficult weapons to make are the 'stone age' ones!)

Screwdrivers are actually quite fascinating.
Actually I think the torx and allen headed screws/screwdrivers are pretty cool. A flat blade screwdriver can be used as a prybar (within reason). It can be used as a chisel (e.g. if you're installing a doorknob assembly or a new lock ... or even installing a new blank door in a doorway).

A magnetized screwdriver can help you retrieve small metal objects that drop out of reach.

A very long one can be slipped into a shirtsleeve - gripped in reverse it can be used to break a window or car door with an elbow thrust.... if you're a thief of course.

Or it can be used as an improvised melee weapon icepick fashion.

You can never have too many screwdrivers ... :p

It's a matter of honoring the past for me. I know that while many battles are unnecessary, the necessary battles are milestones in history. When I hold a sword used to stop an army from dominating a peaceful nation, I know that I hold a weapon that was used for good and possibly helped to shape the future for the better. That's a very powerful thing. To me, ideally, weapons are something that belongs on a wall with a plaq honoring those who were willing to give their lives for freedom and liberty. Of course I live in reality and I know that there are weapons that are being used right now to kill and inujure for good and bad.

weapons of any type provide me with one interest alone and that is it allows me to protect myself and my family at any cost. whether its a handgun, blade, or club as long as it does the job.

From my father, really.

He tried to teach me how to shoot, but I sucked at it. I picked up a bow and found that I had some talent with that. He showed me the antique swords that he had, and I read tales of knights and samurai. I was impressed with the concept of a code of honor and how it made a person stronger for it.

I always wanted to be a knight as a young kid. The sword was his tool, and Musashi's duels seemed to be the essence of competition. As I became older I was more impressed with the craftsmanship inherent in archaic weaponry. Of course, having a father who was a premier bladesmith probably influenced me. :lol:

I appreciate the effort that is required to manufacture the weapon and the effort in training to use that weapon effectively.
