Town where everyone had a gun....true or false
I have been telling some friends that a town in Florida passed a law that
all of it's citizens were required to have some kind of gun in their home or car. It was deemed an experiment to see what would happen and during this time, the crime was at an all time low. Did I tell the truth or did I get the story wrong? (Here in Houston, I read where we have reports of some thugs stopping people in their cars and demanding the drivers to hand over their money and other valuables or be shot. Other stories in the newspaper report people have been robbed at their homes when they step out of their cars in their driveways or garages.) Two more questions: How much money did it cost you to take a handgun Safety class and what does it cost to get a handgun license? |

The town was Kenneshaw, GA. Yes, a law was passed in the early 90s requiring each household to have a firearm; crime promptly dropped by a precipitous 85 percent. Wonder why that coulda been...
Handgun safety classes are usually pretty cheap through the NRA, although the VAST majority of handgun/gun safety can be covered in the following two rules: 1: ALL guns, unless they are in pieces, are loaded. PERIOD. 2: Never point a gun at anything you are not prepared to destroy. This include Bad Guys. Depending upon where you live, a license for a handgun ( purchase ) is probably not needed. Here in my home state of NC, it is $5. If you mean a Concealed Carry Permit, it will probably cost around $200; this includes range time, classroom instruction, and your examination. |

No purchase permit required here in oregon, just the 10 dollar fee for the instant background check that you pay for each gun you buy. If you want a CCW it's typically 25 bucks for the required class, in my county if your not a member of the gun club the gun club charges you 7 bucks for the range fees (you have to show proficiency w/ a handgun to pass the class in this county), and then it's 65 dollars for a new permit, 50 dollars for a renewal, and 15 dollars for a duplicate.
*edit* after doing some searching on the net, I found that it's going to cost you about 250 dollars for the class and the permit. Jim Pruett does it in your area, here's his website: http://www.jimpruett.net/texas_conce...asses_home.htm Last edited by cj2112; 06-19-2005 at 08:16 AM.. |

You guys get it cheap. Here, it's $125 for the class, plus $95 in money orders to various government money pits. There's only one type of pistol permit issued, and it alloows you to purchase pistols, purchase long arms without the 14-day waiting period, and carry a pistol on your person (must be concealed.)
I believe that Virign, Utah also requires everyone to own a gun, and UN and EPA personnel are considered persona non grata and will be escorted to the town line by police if found within city limits. |

EPA region 8 In rural Washington, a CCP requires only 60 bones, an FBI background check and 30 days. In exchange, you get a gun lock and a couple of letters and brochures about self-defense and firearm safety. I find this is a better resource. |

I have a friend who lived in Sandcreek GA for about 10 years. When she moved there, she and her husband were informed that they were expected to buy a gun if they didn't have one already, and if there was a break-in they should still call the police.
But they expected everything to be taken care of when the police arrived. She noted that no one ever had to lock up anything there... ![]() |

Well, I did a bit of research. I remembered the environmental organization part and assumed it was EPA. It's actually the Grand Canyon Trust, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, and the Utah Wilderness Coalition that are banned. My statement that the town is a UN-free zone is correct. |

yea, Utah has some pretty lax laws on guns. I enjoy it quite a bit woprking for a classIII gun manufacturer. all i need is a nice little piece of paper from my boss that says i am a demonstrator and tester of weapons and i can lug around all his full-auto guns wherever I want.
Kinda nice to take out a full-auto uzi to the desert for some after dinner fun! the dishes are done, man! |

peewee: where are you based.
I used to go out and shoot with some friends on the other side of Provo lake. When the house fridge died we loggued it out there and tested it's resistance to bullets. I'll tell you, the girls were the ones that got the biggest kick out of it. They were way more stoked than the guys. Funny to watch. |

in Indiana, there is no class, and I spent about $50 for the permit total with shipping and other stuff
Ohio, on the other hand, requires a course, which I saw running up to $150 and as little as $35 if you know someone who met someone who knew an NRA instructor who runs a class in the middle of no-where like I did ![]()
