Calling all SCAdians

Anyone else on TFP going to march off to the war of lillies?
I leave friday and am wondering if I will be the only TFP member there- While we are on the subject, anyone got any SCA war stories to share with us? Being a bloodsuckingDamnmerchant with metal added to my arm, I don't fight, but watch the field battles when I can.......

I've known many SCA folk, but am not one myself.

Closest I come is LARPing.

But it sounds interesting.

Got a link?

I have many SCA buddies, and I'm going to have to borrow some garb soon in order to attend a wedding between two of them. Have a great time!

Pray for the gods of thunder not to unleash their wrath like they did last year- other than that, I plan to- as for a link, try the Calontir website......

This SCA thing, I presume it's simulated military conflict or something?

Society for Creative Anachronism. Mostly Middle Ages and Renaissance, includes the battles but also a whole lot more. Distingushed from the Renaissance Faire people based on historical accuracy; Rennies will allow dragons and magic, but SCA doesn't.

Also known as the Society for Creative Adultry and/or Societ for Creative Alchoholism. They do their level best to live up to both. Well, they did 10 years ago when I used to hand out with some of them.

the group you are in and your geoghaphic lpcation really matter on the above items- here its really laid back at the moment

Moonduck 06-28-2005 10:25 AM

I'm a lapsed SCAdian in Atlantia. My SCAdian friends have been lightly attempting to entice me. The politics puts me off though. Who knows, maybe I'll start showing back up to Fighter Practice.

Fire 06-29-2005 11:31 PM

Politics is not my thing either, and once again, it seems to be a matter of where you live, rather than an integral thing to it, - for me its a buisiness nescessity to avoid the bullshit, and as a result I tend to keep the whole thing at arms length- given that I do ren-faires, pagan events, sca and sci fi cons as a living, its just easier to announce loudly that you are not joining anyones faction, party, group, whatever- emulating switzerland seems to work for me, and no-one has yet begrudged me for it.....

moosenose 06-30-2005 03:05 PM

Nope, not here. Every time I run into them, they want to fight with me. After I broke my "6D" maglight on one of them at a Con, my response to them has been to reach for my sidearm. I understand that shooting them if they threaten me is not considered to be within the SCA rules.

BTW, you do know that they are classified as a "non-violent subversive organization" by Tha G, don't you? If you think you might ever need a security clearance, stay away.

Fire 06-30-2005 09:30 PM

Moosenose, while I agree that there are assholes in the SCA, I wonder where you got the above idea regarding security clearances- the active duty military members of the SCA that I have met, among them army military intel, and special operations, who have security clearances, might be very suprised to learn of this- there is a group called the SCA (not the society for creative anachronism) that is classed as a "non violent subversive organization", and that may be the source of your confusuion.......

Actually, it came from talking to SCA members, who seemed mightily amused that they were classified by the Fibbies as "non-violent".

Fire 07-07-2005 07:51 PM

I heard it from scadians too, and so far it seems to be apochraphal- I cannot find any real evidence of them being on any "list" though quite a few have heard that they are.... anyone been able to find any hard fast stuff that puts this into the realm of fact rather than hearditfroma ? maybe they (the sca guys) saw something on the other sca acronym and assumed it meant them....
