a picture of the markings would aid greatly in determing the rifles obscurity... |
I will have to take some.. might not be until next week though..

I don't know how rare they are but my friend has one and it shoots great.
Used it one year for deer hunting and i loved it. would like to find one for myself. |
I don't think they're all that rare considering how many were made, and the price for which they can be bought.

It's been awhile since I've seen a Shotgun News, but I don't remember them being that rare.
I could be wrong, tho. |
Mausers were the most common rifle in the world until the AK-47 showed up. You can get a German WW2 Mauser in good condition for about 200 bucks. Turkish and Czech Mausers are a lot more common though, and go for about 100-120 bucks. It's a pretty fun gun to shoot, but it definately has a mean kick. My friend once said he always wondered why German soldiers always looked so grim in old photos, then he shot a Mauser and found out why.

I'll agree with whocarz.. extremely common... and I personally own a few... and I love them for their history and they are jsut fun to shoot, though you do need a good butt-pad.

If you can post a pic of the gun overall and one of the top of the receiver, I can tell you what you've got. |

Always the odd exception, pre-WWI K98 w/ Black Forest walnut stock, personally autographed by the Kaiser & smuggled in Marlene Dietrich suitcase when she fled Germany in the 1930's....... soundmoltor |

My father has a rifle from WWII that chambers 8mm Mauser. As a kid, I fired it once.....once. Something about a mule, and kicking, and something else. Funny that this thread even showed up since my dad and I were talking about that rifle just an hour ago at his house!
|
I've got a K98 and they're a dime a dozen... I think they go for $200 or so a piece. I enheritied it and have never fired it. I'm more of a pistol guy...
|
I'll tell you this...
rifles made before 38 are what the collectors are really after... or so says my nazi welding instructor *sigh* |
Own one.. They are not that rare. They are a very common WWII arm out on the market currently along with Mosin Nagnet M44's. That being said if you are looking at a good rifle for shooting and collecting and like the gun Get it they should be fairly inexpensive.
