This is true, because the fall-out was even better. Seems the guy was an undercover cop for the DEA, and he didn't realize he was being videotaped. Once the tape got out, his cover was blown and his unit yanked him off of the street.

For something like that you think they would find the closest thing to a expert they had in gun safty and stuff like that. if thats the best they have... lots of people are in trouble. Not exactly what i would want protecting people.

I highly doubt that they'd be farming out their best people to do classroom presentations. They're much more useful elsewhere. Now if someone happens to be a complete fuckup, but they can't really fire them for anything, what do you think their assignment would be? I'd venture doing stuff like going around to schools and doing presentations.

Wow. That was stupid. He should have made sure that the gun wasn't loaded before stepping a foot into that classroom...

The nation-wide average, among all levels of Law Enforcement, for centre-of-mass hits on a full-size sillouette at 7 meters is a whopping 26%. LAPD is the high-scorer, at 74% ( as of last year ). Twenty-six percent. At 7 meters, with my .44, I shoot 95-100%. And I am hardly an exceptional shot. Cops just plain can't shoot.
So i'd like you to try chasing after a suspect when your on full adrenaline and then hit a moving target in center mass while your shaking, so stfu kthx. shooting a live target that is moving and/or has reflexes AND while your pumped full of adrenaline is alot different than shooting at a range. police officers must qualify every 6 months (in most jurisdictions) and that involves tactical shooting where they have to run for a certain distance and then fire, they HAVE TO QUALIFY. so until you do as stated above, dont be an idiot.

Old signature just wasn't doing it for me anymore, so now I have this new one. It's equally as stupid but at least it looks really long. I'm probably just going to keep typing until I run out of things to babble about and see how many people actually read this. I once ran down a hill, fell down and hurt my elbow; my mom said I would be ok, she kissed it and made it all better. I've run out of things to say now, so if you have read this whole thing, congratulations you get a gold star!

Actually, zxello, I -do- do as stated. I regularly train in a similar "shoot-and-scoot" vein with not only my sidearm, but my 13-lb MBR and 200 rounds of .308 hanging off my happy ass, and I -still- shoot rings around every cop I know. There's a -reason- why you never see cops winning IPSC or IDPA shoots, after all. There's also a -reason- why civillians hit bystanders 45% less frequently than cops do in Justifiable Homicide cases; or are you suggesting that only cops get adrenaline-dumped when some fucksack sticks a gun in their face? There's a -reason- for all of these things, at that reason is this:

Cops, in the main, can't shoot. Sure, they qualify twice per year...the "qualification" rate is 25% hits in most jurasdictions, and I burn up more ammunition in one afternoon's practice than the average Jackboot does in an entire year. So does everyone else I shoot with. The scores I cited above were for hits on stationary paper targets at 7 meters, in case you didn't bother to read. Stationary...paper...targets. Not

I know that people in the Australian Protective Service ( a division of the Australian Federal Police charged with protecting diplomats), only have to fire 30 rounds a year.
For myself, I have to shoot 800 rounds a month just to keep in practice so I can get a half decent score in IPSC matches. 800 minimum.

That was funny. I did however, similarly discharge a gun when I was cleaning it once. Nobody was hurt and the bullet embedded itself into a plank in my bedroom when I was 16.

OK. I'm going to put out a really big secret here:

Every time you pick up or are handed a weapon, you must clear it.

Remove the ammo source; mag, clip, belt whatever. Then check the chamber (where the bullet "waits" in the barrel to get shot off) and make sure it is empty. Easy, no ADs. Pretty good presentation though.

This is from Snopes:

"He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. Then he pulled back the slide and asked someone in the audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded, the report said.

Witnesses said the gun was pointed at the floor and when he released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh."

Make sure you actually look.... don't just go through the motions.
