MP5
I took advantage of an opportunity today to shoot a MP5. I got to empty a couple of clips and boy, is it smooth. No recoil at all and a nice tight grouping (and I'm not that good). I sure wish I could afford one, heck it would even make a decent home defense weapon (9mm, short frame, mounted flashlight).
I really don't have a point to this post, I just really enjoyed shooting the weapon and all of my friends think guns are evil, so sharing my enthusiasm with them would be a Bad Thing™. Thanks for letting me share. |
If your friends ripped through a few clips on that gun they might not think guns were so evil, just a hell of a lot of fun.
|
yea;; u shouldve let them run through some clips :P
|
i wouldnt mind blasting through some clips on an mp5, tell your friends not to knock it till they try it...
|
I am going to Vegas soon, and I plan on renting a full auto for fun. The MP5 is one of my choices, but I am leaning to the old Thompson.
|
The MP5's a ton of fun. Sucks that they are so hard to get. I haven't had a chance to shoot any of the American made MP5 clones but the things I've read have been positive. HK doesn't sell MP5s in the States for whatever reason so you will have to cough up at least a couple grand to get a legal one already here. There are worse investments to be had though and an HK is the best and will never lose it's value so even at 2k its not a crazy purchase imo.
|
First of all, get new friends. Secondly, getting a full auto MP5 legally here in the States will be quite a bit more than a couple grand. More like $15k.
And the last thing, which I know is anal, but i gotta say it: I really hate when people call magazines "clips". ARGH! It's just, just please people! It's so ignorant. I know it isn't your fault, it's the media with their idiocy that have basically programmed people to call them clips. Sure, the M1 Garand uses a clip, and bolt actions use stripper clips, but modern semi and full auto weapons use magazines. You can abbreviate and call them "mags", and hey! Look at that! Shorter and easier to say than "clips". Remember, a mag is for your gun, a clip is for your hair. Thank you for your time, that is all. |
''I am going to Vegas soon, and I plan on renting a full auto for fun. The MP5 is one of my choices, but I am leaning to the old Thompson.''
I've shot the mp5, it is an awesome weapon, smooth and fast. The one I shot also had a suppressor, all you heard was the bolt cycling. I really would love to shoot an old Thompson. I've always been intrigued by them. |
Went to Vegas a few years ago and rented an MP5. It was the most ragged-out dog you could imagine. If it cycled 5 times before jamming, it was a good run. And range policy menat that I had to give the attendant the gun just to watch him pull back the charging handle exactly as I would've done.
If it wasn't so damned fun, I would've ask for my money back. |
There are two ranges with full-auto rentals within a half-hour drive from me. This summer, I think i'm going to bring some friends, throw down a few hundred on ammo and rentals, and watch the uneasiness toward guns subside. Maybe I'll bring some anti-gun people and a camera and catch them with a big smile on their faces like the pic of Chuck Schumer with a Tec-9.
|
Where are these rental places in Vegas? I'd love to check one out.

Nice to hear that you like our guns. Now go ahead and buy our cars as well. :D

Isn't it also technically incorrect to call most firearms a "gun" too though. Its just everyday parlance that some people use. Akin to calling what is in your car a "motor" when it is actually an engine. |
People just keep messing up those names. Everyone calls a automatic rifle a machine gun, too. No matter if it's a submachine gun or a assault rifle.
|
Thanks for the advice, but I like my friends. I might not agree with them about everything, but that's what makes them good friends.
The MP5 I shot didn't have full-auto, just the three round burst or single shot. The weapon itself was about 10 years old, but I thought it shot rather well. Didn't have any jams, although I only shot two magazines (apparently they are not clips ;) ) |
my uncle has a few mp5s ive gotten to shoot em... one of em has a supressor on the end and is full auto... not very practical... but still a ton of fun!

MP5's full auto are a real treat. but the Thompson is pure sugar! I absolutly LOVE the thompson, but if you are going out out to rent and shoot you should go with the MP5 because you will waste your money buying expensive .45 rounds as apposed to cheap 9mm.
also if your down there you should rent an UZI! they are hands the best sub machine gun, at least to me ;) you can unload a whole magazine and still stay on target. plus I beleive at the start of march is the big UZITALK ( www.uzitalk.com) shootout so there will be TONS of nice full auto weapons there. My work should be down there showing off some of our uzi's ( www.vectorarms.com) |

Isn't that one referring to cartridges as in ammunition though? |
And more (from Webster):
Main Entry: 2clip Function: noun 1 : any of various devices that grip, clasp, or hook 2 : a device to hold cartridges for charging the magazines of some rifles; also : a magazine from which ammunition is fed into the chamber of a firearm 3 : a piece of jewelry held in position by a clip As to the "motor" and "gun" things, that needs no discussion. Just because people use different labels than you do does not make them wrong. |

It doesn't matter if you happen to find some obscure dictionary reference that says a "clip" is a "magazine." If you go to a gun-shop, gun-show, Thunder Ranch, Front Sight, your local shooting range or police range and point to a magazine and say, "can I see that clip?" everyone will give you a puzzled look. |
I wouldn't call Webster an "obscure" reference. :P I really don't care much either way, but the dictionary disagrees with you.
