Nothing has been printed regarding this in the letters section. This is about what I'd expect from a newspaper whose editors ran a headline about trout fishing the day after Pakistan's 1998 nuclear tests.

Sounds like it was a dark green day on the Terrorism Scaremongering newswire at the newspaper.
I was always under the impression that the US had an enormous gun crime/fatality issue until I saw the stats for 2001 mortalities for the US. Out of the 70,000 odd deaths from firearms, about 65- 70% of those were suicides. And most of those were in the 45-65 age group. It didn't list assaults not resulting in deaths, but death is always the big siren for the media. In the same year, the stats show that medical related deaths (operating table and misdiagnosis, drug reactions) exceeded gun related deaths. Ban doctors. ;) |
I'm sorry Willy, but that's horrible logic. It's like saying "25 000 people die yearly from gunshot wounds, therefore we should blame ballistic vests." :P It doesn't change the fact that parts of the US have what could be considered an "enormous gun crime/fatality issue".

Here's some links with some info for the 5.7x28mm 'SS190' ammo used in the Five-seveN and the P90: http://www.fnmfg.com/lawenf/ss190/ss190.htm & http://www.spa-simrad.com/57ammo.htm

Is no one else pissed that they spent tax payers money to waste a vest for their little scientific experiment?

Suave, my point is more that us foreigners tend to be handed the entire gun fatality number as just murders without the figures explained properly.
They're never in context, just like my 'ban doctors' bit. |
