.40 autoloaders just bored out 9's?
Hiya peeps
from what I have been told, ALL .40 S&W autoloaders are just bored out 9's except for the H&K's (I've been told that they are the only company to actually design a pistol around the .40 round, but I've been told this by HK enthusiasts, so it is worthy of some independant verification ![]() But anyways, I was just wondering if anyone knew anything for certain, I've been told that the Springfield XD's and the glocks are just bored out 9's and as such are not as reliable with the .40 round as they are with the 9 they were designed for specifically... anyways, not trying to make a this .40 is better than that .40 thread, just genuinely curious about it... thanks -z

i don't think that's the case with glock pistols. i can't find the specifics right now, but the glock faq tech data shows the empty weight of the 17 (9mm) as 22.04oz and the 22 (.40) as 22.92oz. if the .40 was just a "bored out" 9mm, i'd expect the weight to be less rather than almost an ounce more.

I agree the glocks are tough, but the DAO is not for me...
I would drop the money on a HK in a heartbeat, but, the germans have been pissing me off as of late.

As for the OP, a lot of guns will support conversion barrels, but mostly you have to buy the .40, then convert to the 9mm. The SA XD, for example, is one, being the slide on the 9mm is some what thinner than on the 40. |

Beretta's have a beefed-up slide for their .40s, as does Kel-Tec, even though they dropped their .40.
Browning HPs I believe also have a heavier frame for their .40s. The older EAA Witnesses did just require an upper-half change to go from 9mm to .40. The newer ones have a bigger frame and require just an upper-half change to go from 9mm to .40 to .357Sig to .45 to 10mm etc. Also, the Sig 239 uses different frames and slides for 40/357 and 9mm so are not interchangable.
