Hi-Cap mags
 

So, now that they're legal to sell to law-abiding civilians again, anybody go on a shopping spree? Anybody care?

You can only get high caps in states that don’t have capacity laws. CA, NY, and NJ are still a no go for anything over 10 rounds.

As for the mags, the price has not dropped yet.

I'm sure it will soon. Availability will go up and prices will drop.

I bought some 12 rounders to replace some 10s but haven't tried them yet for one gun. Planning on the same for another.

I think one big issue is that over the past 10 years, pistol sizes were scaled down fit the 10 round limit, making larger magazines impractical.

For rifles, there was so much surplus military out there that everyone stocked up in 1994. It will take a while for surplus to make its way through the system again.

Just to clarify, hi-cap mags have been legal to sell for the last 10 years. They were just illegal to manufacture. So before the ban went into affect, companies made stockpiles of hi-cap mags. After the ban went into affect, the prices went way up.

Now everyone is waiting on the prices to come back down.

I'm embarassed to say how much money I invested in hi-cap USP mags...

So you've got both a DSA SA58 and an HK USP.
Seems we've got similar tastes, but my USP is a Compact .45. I got it because I can't afford a full-house custom 1911 just yet. My USP came with a history of less than 50 rounds and came with an additional 4 magazines! What a deal!

Seems like we've both got excellent taste!

My USP is a 9mm.
I use it to shoot the Hertinberger +P+ I bought a few years ago for my 94 (that I've since sold). It's a real rocket with that hot stuff.

My 45 is a Kimber Custom Shop Gold Combat:stainless which I love.

I want another 1911. What I may do is buy a Sig GRS and send it to Matt McLearn (the shooter/gunsmith who helped develop it) for some custom work. This is, predictably, a way off though.

I already have a stock of hicaps for my AR15, now I too am waiting for the price to come down on OEM mags for my SIG P226.

Currently my favorite gun shop has 15 rounders for $30.

Lebell, you can get the MecGar 17 round flush fits for $18 online from several companies for your 226. I have them and they work great. MecGar is the OEM for several gun manufacturers.

The price of 226 mags hasn't changed since the ban started. Even post-ban MSRP is still higher then what you could get for prebans during the ban. Sig is plain expensive. I got some CDNN demo mags at 30 dollars a piece before the ban ended.

I always wanted a 1911 but, since I picked up my buddy's Jardine custom Colt series 80, I can't pick up a stock 1911 without feeling like something's lacking. Some day when I have a couple of grand to spare I'll get one.
My 9mm is my BHP Mark I purchased new in 1987. It's had the ramp polished, a reliability job, mag safety removal and a decent #5.5 trigger job. Cosmetically it's stock and, with 15 and 17rd South African/ Argentine military mags, it's a lot of fun to shoot.
For carry I prefer my Glock 23 with the Glock 22 or 23 Hi-Caps. I like .45 but It's better to have 15 rounds of .40 than 8 rounds of .45. And the 9mm seems a little under powered.

But, truthfully, any gun will do if you will do.

Not sure.
In a state like California, where we've got additional restrictions, no.

Maybe in state where citizens are still allowed to own guns, folding stocks would now be legal.

Yep big shopping spree bought a Glock-20 and about 5 15 round former LE mags. It was like Christmas

Once again, the ban did not make these things illegal. It made them illegal to produce but not to own or sell. Now they can be produced again, but you can buy the same stock today you could have bought a year ago. Unless of course your state as specific laws against it.

I'm with you guys, I like my Springfield 1911 and my Century Arms L1A1. They are proven designs that really work.

There should be tons of military surplus on its way soon, if the US military goes through with the M-8 as a replacement for the M-16/M-4 and possibly some other weapons.

The factory sights were totally shitty three-dot fixed, and looked as if some drunk 14 yr. old Hungarian kid had filled in the white paint. I dropped about $120 for Heinie Tritium sights (plus the smithing work) just so I could have more confidence in my sight picture. What I didn't expect was that the new sights would do so well in the dark:

That's five magazines' worth of failure/remedial action drills (2 chest 1 head) at full speed from 7 meters. The extra $$$ for those sights was worth every penny. The rear sight glows two red dots in darkness, front sight is a green dot - real easy to line 'em up quickly!

Oh. Anyway, topic: I would spend mad cash on magazines if I could find Wilson Combat mags for a 9mm HP. I shot with them last weekend through my friend's S.A. 1911A1, and I fell in love. They operated smoothly, felt and looked nice, and were totally reliable through the 500 rounds we dumped downrange that day.

Anyone else have these magazines? Better yet, ever heard of them for anything besides a 1911?

Sucks that in this town, you can't find spare mags or accessories for anything but 1911s, Glocks, or Berettas. Someday I'll move away from Hickville again...

If the FEG takes BHP mags there are some Argentine/South African military BHP mags which hold 15 and 17 rds. They can be found for as little as $15-20 a each over the internet. I've had good experiences with them.
Stay away from Ramline, USA and most other aftermarket brand magazines. Mec-gar is OK, though.

Hopefully you don't need any high cap magazines, but they sure are nice to have if you do! I have a Bushmaster M-4 and I do not think I can count the total number of 30 round magazines I have. I think I may even buy the big 100 round drum, just because we can! At least until Kerry gets elected, which hopefully doesn't happen.

It was so nice, to buy glock 22 15 round clips that used to cost 90 bucks, for 20 dollars at a local gun show.... 5:1 special YAHHHH

I say buy all the high-caps you can, they will ban them all again, next time they won't make the mistake of having so many loopholes as the first ban. All of this talk just pisses me off, I live in CA.
