Anyone Have a CCW In San Berdo County Ca?

Hello All I am currently looking to try and obtain a CCW in San Bernardino CA. I know that is is possible to obtain one here. However I am a little frustrated due to that fact that I need to provide at least three letters of referance from people I have know at least a year. You are also required to provide 4 contacts on the app.

Now my problem is that I really don't know a lot of people and out of the friends I have asked for the letters or to even list as a contact only one has been willing to do so. It is very hard here in Ca to find to many people that are pro gun.

I am hopeing that someone out there may have some experiance with this area and can provide some advice. If not well just consider this a rant.

CA? Your screwed, you'll never get it even if you manage to fill out the app.
At least that is the going word on the street.

For instance :-)

Los Angeles Police Department

Documents Required:
No documents required. No reason needed.

Please see note below.

Process:
Process is simple, everyone is DENIED. There are only 8 CCW's in this city of 3 million.

Please see notes below.

Notes:

According to a chart issued by the California Attorney General's Office, Los Angeles County had issued a total of 874 permits based on numbers calculated in the year 2000. I cannot attest to the accuracy of this number as it was provided by a source that cannot provide documentation. I have heard, directly from a Police Officer who had previously been stationed with the LAPD, that during the last 4-5 years, a greater number of permits have been issued. I was told the Los Angeles area has become quite a bit more lenient with the issuance of permits. I do not know if that is for the city or the county, but it is good news.
For San Bernardino Specifical...

San Bernardino - UPDATED 04/18/04

Documents Required:

Birth certificate or naturalization papers (copies OK), CA Driver's License, "Copy of recent utility bill or copy of property deed or parcel number or any other sufficient proof full-time residency within the County..." (quoted from the application verbatim)

3 letters of character reference (originals).

A standard application that requested information like: personal info, SSN, address, employer, 4 additional references that will be contacted by mail or phone, employment history, residence history for the past 10 years, prior CCW applications, questions about past felonies or psychiatric illnesses, names and addresses of 3 neighbors.

A statement of WHY you should be issued a CCW. "Self Defense" will probably NOT be accepted as a valid reason in itself. There are also clauses that disqualify any person convicted of a "Misdemeanor crime of domestic violence."

Process:

Application is made directly through the San Bernardino County Sheriff. You may apply through a city within the county, however, your chances of approval are slim. The Sheriff has been described as being fairly liberal with the issuance of permits when a "good cause" is presented.

Notes:

The following statements are from a permitted individual: To my knowledge, ALL provided information was investigated FULLY. DO NOT even think of attempting to apply if you have ANY intent to deceive or hide a criminal background.

Q: Must carry permit by law? A: I was required to attend a CCW course run by the SB Sheriff's Dept. In this course they emphasized that YES! you must have the permit on your persons WHENEVER you are carrying. I also signed an additional document outlining the conditions of having a CCW that mentions this explicitly.

Q: Must apply in Person? A: Yes, this is a requirement. A face to face interview with the Sheriff or the issuing Deputy that is representing the Sheriff is required. It was for me, non-confrontational and used to clarify and verify information in the paperwork.

Q: Cost for Permit? A: Two parts, $73.00 for the DOJ (Department of Justice) background check, and $112 to the issuing Sheriff's Dept. Both had to be cashier's checks or money orders. Renewal costs DOJ $25.00, Sheriff's Dept. $24.00. Also, the CCW course (required) was I think $75.00, for both first time and renewal.

No You are not screwed in Ca!

If you had bother to dig a little deeper at the link that you provided you would see that most counties in CA do issue permits. I am a member at packing.org and have been for some time.

Since I live in San Bernardino County I do actullay have a fairly good chance of getting the permit. You are right that in that if it was L.A. County I would be out of luck but that is not the case.

I was just hopeing to get a little more info from others who have gone through the process here in Sa Bernardino county.

Do you have a justification other then self defense?
Do you own or operate a public business?

The description I got from reading the summary was that mere mortals are screwed.

San Bernardino County is the easiest county in CA to get a CCW, but I doubt it will be easy.

BTW, where in Victorville do you live? How long have you been up here? Familiar with R&J Cutlery? Stop in between 12PM and 5PM Monday thru Friday and you'll fnd me there.

Yes I do own a bussiness here in victorville. And as far as getting the permit even the cause statement can be pretty broad. I do know one other person who was able to get a permit here in San berdo county and he was very helpful in walking me thru the process. I just wanted to get some diffrent points of view.

As far as living in Victorville I have moved to Apple Valley since I opened my account here and i just forgot to update my profile. I do know where your store is located. In fact I just bought a rifle from the gun store next to you a few weeks ago.

CCW in SB county or SD county

I am a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton from San Bernardino, I would like to get my CCW but don't want to spend the money to be denied. I have a TS clearance and have attended a concealed weapons presentation/carry course through the Marine Corps. What is the best route for me in obtaining my CCW? A friend told me not to waste my time with a CA due to the chances and just get a Utah for travel.

I don't recall seeing that in the Second Amendment.
