I am buying a BB gun this weekend

My very first gun! I will shop for it at Wal-Mart (yeah, yeah, I know). I have fired guns before, including an AR15 a few weeks ago at a firing range. That's what has gotten me hooked... I was waxing targets at 50 yards and still taking kill shots at 100... and I had never fired anything bigger than a BB gun before that.

So... any recommendations for a good gun? I can only spend about $75-ish.

Well, what ever you get, be safe with it. You can still kill someone with some of the higher power models if you hit a vital point. Safety glasses, gun rules, etc apply for air guns as well.

As for the guns, most things under $75 will not have a decent velocity, so long range shooting will be difficult. Look for something with as high fps as you can get.

Here are a bunch of reviews

Here is an interesting Kit.

Umm.... I just want a BB rifle to shoot at cans and targets in my yard. This is looking a lot more complicated than that.

Aw heck if that's all your gonna shoot at, just go get you a good ole fashioned Red Rider at Walmart for about 25 or 30 bucks lol. Have fun!!

Just go to Walmart and talk to the sales rep. they should be able to tell you what you need to know if your just doing this as a backyard can shoot.

I have a Beeman pellet gun, It's so awsome. The RWS are Ok, the Beemans rock. They do cost more, but if you have the cash they are totally worth it.

BB or pellet or both?

A pellet-only rifle will probably be a little better made and you might find a Gamo for $75 w/o a scope. Cabelas has an RWS for $99, which is a really good price. Obviously, don't expect 100 yard shots.

I have a RWS Magnum 350. Its a awesome pellet gun, but its a little much (money and size) for backyard plinking. Not to mention the 60 lb pull to re-cock. The Beemans are nice as Kurtz pointed out. Decide what fits you best and what is fun to shoot. I sometimes will sit on the back porch with my soons .22 pellet gun that is CO2 powered. Not as accurate or powerful, but you dont get chest pain cocking the thing.
