Just an FYI,

That's a popular myth.

Springs get weak from the compression/decompression cycle (metal fatigue), not from being kept compressed.

That's news to me, very good to know.

queedo 04-16-2004 02:34 PM

I have a hand folded katana, a.357 mag, a 9mm, a 12 ga shotgun, a highly trained Chow, I am a blackbelt in karate, and if all else fails I will make them eat my wife's cooking!

2 retarded dogs who will bark at you and then roll over so you can rub their bellies. hopefully you would have been scared off before the second part happens.

2 & 1/2 foot rubber staff weighing in at about 9 pounds, light enough to be quick and heavy enough to break someone's elbow/knee if needed.

Welcome to my world. Hence the reason I love those D-cell maglites and a machete.

I'd enjoy the guns, but living in Canada makes keeping them convenient difficult. I already think that having all of 8 guns makes my neighbours think I'm psycho.

If only they knew my gf has like 50-someodd, and a few handguns to boot.

Tell me about it.

I've got 3 long guns and 6 handguns plus a few thousand rounds of ammo and some people would call that an "arsenal".

Sheesh.

That's just a fun Saturday morning...

matteo101 04-20-2004 02:41 PM

I have a Katana on display in my living room, but it could be definetly used as a weapon. That would be kinda cool actually. I can picture it now, going all killbill style. jk. Basically my dog will fend off anyone just because it barks if any human comes to the door.

nogoodreason 04-22-2004 01:43 PM

I'm another one with a maglite... I thought I was being original.

I actually practice self defense with the maglite fairly frequently, it's one of my favorite 'everyday' weapons.

SatanLvsU2,

I bought a USP Tactical, although I haven't taken it to the range many times yet, it is SWEEEET! A little pricey though, found my for $950 NIB (soft case actually).

It has about a 2 lb, SA pull.

Catchya later

Memnoch 05-04-2004 02:11 PM

Lessee...

One 62" scottish claymore sword
One 40" chinese dadao sword
Set of japanese katana swords (katana/tanto/wakezashi)
Viking boar spear
Aluminum Spalding bat

Puttz2004 05-12-2004 08:30 PM

3 Bull Mastifs at the foot of the bed and spear gun hanging on the wall...not that the dogs won't eat them before i could get to it....

PhatnS2pid 05-16-2004 08:03 AM

I have two combat knives in my headboard (along with 4 or 5 other smaller knives), and I guess if it came down to it, I could hit an intruder with my guitar.

tropple 05-16-2004 08:34 AM

Ruger Redhawk with handloaded junkyard dog rounds (brads and glazier's points in a shot case.

I would disagree with classifying that flashlight as non-leathal. There is a use-of-force instructor for a nearby Sheriff's office that has put together a training package that illustrates the amount of damage that can be done with one swing of a flashlight.

The training also includes the defensive capabilities of large flashlights.

LordEden 05-17-2004 11:00 PM

I have a range of bladed weapons near my bed and the larger half of a 24oz. cue stick, but the best the the "house" weapon. The 4 Iron near the front door, if that doesn't work, I'll shake my cat and throw it at them.

NewBonk 05-17-2004 11:31 PM

Perhaps I'm just not macho enough, but for me it's about personal protection and not home protection.

If someone wants to break into my house and steal my stuff fine. Heck, I'll help you load the car. I'm not going to risk my life to save material possessions that I can replace.

I think the scenario everyone here appears to be prepared for is that home invasion where the creepy guy sneaks into your bedroom to grope your wife. Although this type of incident is EXTREMELY rare, I have no problem with someone having a plan to defend themselves. Just keep those weapons away from the kids and concealed from the intruder. Having a sicko break into your house is a bad thing, having that sicko shoot/cut/smash you with your own gun/sword/club is worse.

However, the most practical home intruder deterent is none other than a good dog, as mtsgsd suggested. Criminals look for easy victims with easy opportunities. A dog makes noise, and if it's a big dog, it is a formidable opponent for any size man/woman.

As for my home though, I have neither firearms or dogs. But, like many people pointed out... many things can be weapons. I'm a very non-violent person... till I get mad. I'll pull a Grosse Pointe Blank if I have to and use the TV by my bed =) . haha

Slick. Landlord says no dog but I will wear him down. In the meantime I have a weighted baseball bat.

Man, I just love all the responses of people with bigass maglites :D

Damn Straight! I have one of 'em too! When I was younger I had some strang obsession with Flashlights... at one point I probably owned over 30 flashlights. Sadly since I did EVERYONE in my family took them to use and never returned them. :( All I have left is a sweet multi-use one (has a huge neon light on it :D) and my huge ass Mag-Lite. It shows the way and move mean people outta my way. :D

What else? In my room I have some Kali Sticks, a Staff, a single Chuck (which is always good at Chucking at people). Oh!! And my BoxCutter I used when I worked at Target. If people can take over an airplane with them, I'm sure I could get a slash or two in on you.

Of course if it came down to it, I'd take my lava lamp off of my bedpost and throw that at your head... Preferably while its hot. :D

I'll throw anything at you, and if my floor has any say in the matter.. I have plenty of ammo.

As I live in England (ex South African), and guns arent allowed to be kept out of the safe, I just keep my trusty skinning knife near me, as well as two spears and an axe.

Mossberg 500 complete with 00 buck!

Amethyst 05-30-2004 07:16 AM

When I was growning up at home I would sleep with a knife between my mattress. But now that I am older and have kids and that's not safe I have my husband for protection.
