Mini-Gun Idea

This is my naive idea

Open up a shop in my home town. Purchase (some how) a mini-gun and charge people to fire it for a couple of minutes I could charge like 30 bucks to fire it for 5 minutes. I'm sure a lot of people would go for it! Set up some targets like an old car or something of the sort. Of course, armed guards would be on site to take down anyone who wanted to run amok. I think there would be hordes of people waiting to fire this thing

Are they illegal in the US? Is there any licenses one could obtain to purchase one? How much does the ammo cost

All customers have to sign a contract saying I can't be held liable for any injury or death

I don't think it is legal AT ALL for a civilian to own one in the us, or anywhere else for that matter.

Not true, it's possible, one of the owners of an ammo manufacturing company (I forgot the name) has one.

See my thread on machine gun shoots.

Sometimes miniguns show up there.

I'm not sure when they started producing mini's, but if it was after the machine gun ban, then it would be illegal for anyone but a manufacturer to own one.

And yeah, you would burn through ALOT more than 30$ of ammo in 5 minutes.

Owning one and operating one are two very different things. When you go Class III, your name goes on a very short and very monitored list that the federal government keeps. I'm sure owning one that was non-operational or even one without firing it would be alright if you passed through all the checks, redtape, taxation, and legal hassles involved in it. Ammunition and a hopper would probably be harder to obtain/maintain let alone justify to the government--especially with the USA PATRIOT Act still an active piece of legislation. Hell, just inquiring about one would probably be enough to merit some unwanted attention. No longer is it inconspicuous for a US citizen to say "I need ____________ for home defense." Just look at the manipulation of public misconceptions about "assault weapons." Trying to get around the hassle to say "Hey, this minigun will be operated by untrained, unchecked civilians, but it's cool--it's just a business venture" would be far more difficult than you might imagine.

My dad went on abusiness trip to AZ. It was some sort of conference. The company he worked for gave them a choice of golf, something else and one of these shooting ranges at the companies expense. Dad and a couple of his buddies chose the range. They were there for a couple of hours a racked up a bill of over $1800. KAPOW...CHA CHING!
