Experience with Ruger as a company

Anyone have any experience with Ruger.

I have a P90 and I can no longer get the slide off of it. Aparrently when I wrecked my truck, something happened on the inside and is preventing the slide from being removed.

I called Ruger and ended up sending it back today. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.

Ages ago, my father had a 3-screw Ruger Super Blackhawk (ie the old model sans hammer block safety). When the offer came out to have t refitted, he sent the gun in. It came back quickly, worked perfectly, and they'd polished it up (or at least it looked nicely polished to my eyes). He was very happy and his gun was mechanically more reliable.

A good friend of mine has a p-89 and he managed to destroy the ejector while cleaning it a few years ago. He called their service and explained the situation, and expected to pay for it. Ruger 2n-day'ed him the repair part with detailed instructions on how to perform the simple repair. Cost to him: nothing.

I have nothing but respect for Ruger and their products, and own a couple myself. I would not hesitate to buy Ruger in the future, considering them one of the best overall firearms companies in the world.

I've had to have them send me repair parts as well. Never any charge for them. Just haven't had to send a gun back to the manufacturer before.

They've actually fixed my AC556 (ever see The A team???) for very reasonable fees. Good service.

I have a 44 magnum ruger carbine handed down from a few generations back on my in laws side. Ruger sent me a repair manual, and offered to have an upgrade installed without charge. I declined, but they did send me an envelope full of various screws and some sight parts. Took a phone call and serial number.

That's my experience with them. Never sent them a weapon. They are a top shelf company, and one of the best machining, metal and gun smiths around. They're getting sued for 'defective' products, if you believe that. I do know that if you send them a loaded firearm they will notify the authorities and you will be arrested.

Heh. No worries about that, didn't even include the mag with it so I know it's not loaded.

I've only heard one bad thing about Ruger, and even that one is understandable, but keep it in mind:

If you have a customized Ruger ie, after market parts installed, be sure to remove them before you send the gun in for service. If you don't Ruger will remove them all and replace with factory parts!!! The reasoning is that they can't warranty your after-market parts, and thus can't stand behind the repair job. You won't get the parts back either.

I have no personal experience with this, but I've heard this from reliable sources.

Nice to know.

I don't have any aftermarket parts on my Blackhawk, but I might someday.

Actually, I asked about this because I do have an aftermarket recoil buffer. Obviously I can't take it out since I can't get the slide off. They will remove it, replace it with factory stuff and send the aftermarket back to you in the box. If they don't send it back it's theft.

Yeah, come to think of it the things I've heard removed are custom trigger work and other items that affect the "safe function" in legal terms. I know it sounds naieve because it IS theft, but even so parts weren't returned to some of the shooters I know. Maybe just a fluke.

Well, I got my gun back today. It's been 4 weeks since I sent it off, so turn around time wasn't to bad.

They replaced the Barrel Link & Pin, the Ejector, and the Sear Spring. Total cost to me: $0.00

They didn't even replace my aftermarket guide rod and spring set. They did a Safety function check and test fire before sending it back as well.

The only bad thing is they didn't clean it first. Oh well, I can do that myself.

I knew it would work out.

Those folks at Ruger are top shelf.

Those bastards though....not cleaning your piece for you.

Can you imagine? ;-)
