Who'd have thunk it?
A quick story about a family friend, and how some people are just born lucky.
Our friend, we'll call him "Lucky" was at the range for the 10,000th time sighting in his 25-06 rifle. It's his groundhog gun, and other than the fact that he can't get a consistent group with it no matter what he tries, it's a wonderful weapon. =P At this point I'll mention that it really is the gun, not the shooter, he is naturally deadly with about any gun he picks up (bastard). During the day, he'd also been sighting in a .308, and having verified the accuracy of this gun, had it tucked away back in the car. However.... One .308 shell was still on the bench. It's a sad fact that a .308 will fit perfectly into a .25-06 and allow you to close the breech. He loaded it by accident, closed the breech, took a steady aim and fired. The gun, as you'd expect, exploded. He was knocked backward, stunned, dazed, and received the smallest scratch on his cheek. Most of the moving parts of the rifle are in zip lock bags now, and most incredible of all, the bullet wasn't in the breech or barrel. Apparently the pressure just squeezed it right down the barrel. Must have been 2 inches long on exit. /be careful out there.

Holy shit! That bullet is probably in orbit right now...
...around Mars! At least he got rid of his problem gun in an interesting way.

Wow, that's scary. I've known folks to blow guns by double or triple charging a round during reloading, never known anyone that has simply chambered a different round. He was lucky to have not gotten hurt.
Gotta agree with debaser that it sure is a novel way to drop a dog gun though. |

Well, now I know how to get rid of my next trouble(d) gun. That being said, damn, you're friend is damn lucky he isn't in a ziploc bag.
What did we learn from this? When low on rounds, .308 Win will fire from a .25-06 (single use only) *ducks and runs* |
