Anyone have 25k to lend me?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2202772064

Quote:
This one-of-a-kind collection of seven custom knives has been crafted of actual World Trade Center steel in honor of those who valiantly gave their lives on September 11, 2001. The knives have been crafted by seven of the most prominent custom knifemakers from seven individual 10-pound steel fragments of WTC steel. These knives symbolize the seven buildings that came down as a result of 9/11 and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives. 100% of net proceeds from this auction will benefit the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation.
Anyone have 25k to lend me? It's going to a good cause!

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

There you go, 25 of 'em. Seriously, though, are knives the best tribute they could come up with? I like knives (see the pocketknife thread), but this doesn't seem right to me.

Considering further, I don't think I want to own anything made of WTC steel.

Thats pretty much like buying the shell and bullet that killed JFK. It has a lot of history but it caused the nation so much turmoil and misery.

Oh man. I don't like this idea at all... creating weapons from wreckage? I think the only thing worse they could have done would be create model airplanes from WTC steel...

This is like.... "buying the shell and bullet that killed JFK". Taking something that killed, and using it to kill.

And I REALLY doubt it's really from the WTC

I'm sorry that you all think these are so terrible. I don't know how you see weapons: I see art and a very fine tribute to those who gave their lives on 9/11.

Man, I don't know what the hang up is here. I think these are soooooo cool! Especially if they were used by soldiers in Iraq or something. Definately less cool for selling on the internet, but still cool anyway. I think the steel could have been put to one better use though: they could have used it to help rebuild the next WTC to show that we will always rebuild and all that junk, y'know?

Okay, I think these knives are cool so long as they are interpereted as artwork. Making weapons out of the wreckage is just not kosher.

They are most certainly artwork! No one that would be in a position to purchase these knives would ever consider using them I'm sure!

eBay bidding ended with no bids. I'll agree with motdakasha, though, the blue one is very nice. I also like the middle one. But I don't think I could own one.

It could maybe be nice to hang on your wall? Kinda like a world war one rifle that you hang in front of your fireplace. I think that some of the other steel wreckage was sold to China to make souvenirs. And most of that metal was made for construction, not fine knife building so I doubt the integrity is very good.

Actually, I would imagine the steel used in the WTC (and any other large building) would probably be high carbon, and a very functional knife steel.

Thye are beautiful. I don'tknow if I would pay 25k for them, but I would love to own them. And maybe I am just a sick bastard, but if any one knew where to get their hands on the bullet the kill JFK, I'd probably buy that to. The bullet the changed a nation. Kind of a nice, if sick, reminder of how one man can change the world.

I personaly feel that if I die in a terror attack, the building steel should be made into a sword to avenge me- and my charred corpse into an industrial diamond for the pommel- yes, I am serious- Do not mourn me, avenge me- as to this, why not- I mean its for charity, and otherwise its a waste of good materiel- morbid, may be, but we are all gonna go some time, and Its not like this is a shameless cash in- ( this got me thinking, and I feel that a scimitar made from WTC steel would be appropriate for executing ben laden)

If an airliner crashes into your knives. . . is the warrenty void?

But seriously, it think that this WTC "insert gimmick here" is starting to really wear thin. What next? The WTC memorial KIA Rio? Made from WTC steel, the WTC memorial ashtray? Made from WTC cement?

This is starting to get weird!

The auction is long over and has been purged from the system. It was an eBay sposnored charity auction, it wouldn't have been pulled.

This was a very special project done by the worlds top makers. They are all one of a kind. This isn't a marketing gag.

Uhhh. . . . Yes it is!

They could have just as easily (actually easier) to make it out of metal that wasn't from the two towers.

The whole "WTC" angle just allows them to charge $7000+ per knife. A marketing gag is anything that allows the seller to unload the item(s) for much more than they are worth (materials, manhours, regular profit margin).

Regardless, it was done for a charity, so why does it matter? It is a wonderful gesture by all the makers involved. (all of whom made no profit on there knives at all)
