Summertime methods of concealed carrying

SO, I have eighty days till my ccw permit gets here and I am starting to decide how to carry. I live in Colorado so winter carry will be easy with my bigjackets but I am left wondering how to carry during the summer. I have a S&W model 469 which has a doublestack magazine so its a bit wide but is still pretty compact. I would like to go with an inside the pants holster but I am still pretty open minded. My question for those who carry semi autos(keltech excluded) is how you carry during the summer (be as specific as you like) and what rig you use. Thanks in advance for replies

Well, odd you should bring the topic up.

Truthfully, I haven't found a good solution yet for my Keltec P11, but the upper (watch) pocket of my jeans actually holds my pistol high, fairly secure and with just the right amount showing for a decent draw time.

Other than that, I am still looking for solutions.

I have found an interesting site that has a belly holster that looks like it might work:

http://www.smartcarry.com/index.htm

Anyway, let me know if you come up with something that works.

The most popular solution I've heard of is carrying IWB, strong side, towards your back, with a shirt covering the exposed portion of the grip. Simply reach under the shirt and draw.

I've got one of these guys here:

http://www.pagerpal.com/

Works well unless you are a larger person (belly size that is) like me. Anything that has over a 3.5 to 4 in barrel can be a little hard to draw also.

I looked at the pager pal and may give it a try.

Unfortunately, I am also of 'larger' size

It's hard to pull the pager pall streight up when it has to get around relaxed table muscle.

If wearing shorts, I use a thigh holster over my boxers, under my shorts, or if using deep pockets I'll put it in there.

Thigh holster under the shorts is a very interesting idea I've never thought of.... hmm. Might have to give that a shot!

The person in the photo's was a police officer. This officer also has gone undercover on cocaine deals, so he is slightly crazy I am sure :-)

Agreed, he might be a little nuts to do the work he does, but he knows his stuff.

I doubt he carries all that every day, but that post just shows that even in warm weather, you should be able to conceal anything!

Ignoring the fact he's a cop, anyone who carries outside the hood or the target range should really invest in those penis enlarging pills or grow up.

I'm an avid hunter and have no issues with handguns for home defense or target shooting, but private citizens carrying in the streets is something you'd expect in Somolia or Chechnya not a G7 nation (or is it G8 now?).

Why do you say that? While we may not be a third world country, that doesn't mean there isn't crime. In fact, there are some areas (particularly in major cities) where crime might be just as bad as some of the seedier places of the world.

Statistically, you are unlikely to ever need to defend yourself with a handgun, but what happens if you are the lucky one that does get attacked and you have nothing to defend yourself with?

I'd rather carry and never have to use it than risk not carrying and becoming a 5-second blurb on the 11-o-clock news.

Thanks for you opinion.

I guess I'll have to grow up someday then, but not today...

Personally, I think having more weapons than you can keep control over is silly.

I can see having a knife, a main handgun, possibly a backup gun, and maybe pepperspray as well.

But by having all that gear (six knives?) there is no way he would be able to keep control over it in a scuffle. A (previously) unarmed assailant could very easily get ahold of one of his weapons without his knowledge or realization until it is too late.

He is over-equipping himself to the point where his extra weapons are becoming liabilities.

I think he needs to remember the old acronym KISS.

Oops, I forgot to mention my summer carry methods.

I wear pants or shorts with a good belt and an IWB holster (I use a FIST K1 Universal) with an undershirt to keep the holster from sticking to my skin and a thick, loose button up shirt over everything.

It works great, and I haven't had any problems, even though I carry a fairly large weapon (USP compact) and I absolutely can't afford for people to notice that I carry.

You arent allowed to conceal your weapons?

In SA it's illegal to carry unless they are concealed.

Irony or what?

Reading the thread shows that the poster carried that much simply to prove that it can be done in summertime clothing. That said, the most common, and effective, method I've seen and used is a loose outer shirt, untucked, over an inner shirt, tucked, with gun attached to waistband, usually via a holster inside the waistband. It's dead easy, though I try to carry something with a bobbed grip so as to help avoid printing in the outer shirt.

My best sucess is with IWB holster with a loose outer shirt. I like Galco holsers, I think are about the best money can buy. (www.usgalco.com) I have carred a full size Beretta 92 in Indiana durring the summertime this way.

Cheack this out it might help as well:
