Happy happy happy, my CCW permit...

...was just approved!

Now I have to decide if my Kel Tec P11 is going to be my main carry weapon or if I should look at something different.

I'll also have to look at rigs.

Anyone have some experience with different carry rigs?

Congrats.

Alot of people claim they are just crap, but I've liked the Fobus paddle holster. I took what I could find, as I'm left handed and the s&w sigma doesn't (didn't?) have a specific holster model for it. I went with a glock specific (forget which) model which holds the Sigma without issue.

The most versatile and the one I used exclusively when performing ammo tech, armourer or other similar duties which required me to be under arms, without my accompanying ops gear, was a simple leather strap through which I fed my belt. Held what ever concealed weapon I wanted and I never had a problem with it.

I have a galco concealment, and it is a great holster. I have fallen in love with my FIST K1 Universal. It s made out of thin kydex (not that bulky stuff uncle mikes uses) and is custom molded to the gun. And I like the fact that I can set it up for different carry modes. Right now I carry IWB, and it is MUCH better at hiding my weapon close to my body than my Galco, and is by far the best holster I have ever tried.

I haven't heard much about the P-11, but you might want to look at Kahr Arms first.

If I had the extra money, I would pick up one of their smaller weapons.

Gongrats! How long did it take from the time you took the course to finding out you where approved? When approved, do you recieve a permit you carry with you? Just curious. Of course it might be different by state, but would still interested in any info.

Well, I already had the necessary safety courses (IPSC and NRA Basic Pistol), so I didn't have to go back and take another.

It has been slightly under 3 months since I put in my application to the local sheriff and yes, I have to go get my picture taken which will then be laminated onto a permit card that I must have with me whenever I choose to carry.

Anyway, that is how things work in Colorado.

Your own mileage will very depending on your state

Lebell: Thats some good news. I actually just took my class down in denver yesterday. I have been told Kramer leather's horsehide holsters are the best but I might settle with Galco.

Congrats!

Dont have mine yet, but everybody I live with does. And the one carry position that Ive seen that I really really like is the small of the back. He carries a Glock 26. Works well enough as even with a t-shirt untucked its concealed well with no outline. Im not to sure on who makes the holster though.

Oh, for Lebell and anyone else with a ccw, you should check out this website:

www.packing.org

It is a great site for concealed carry information. They have constant updates, with moderators for each state, as well as copies of all the applicable firearms laws, reciprocity agreements, etc.

I know it is a little off topic, but since you are a new CCW, you might now have found it yet.

And really look at FIST holsters. Kydex is much faster than leather, and their stuff is far more concealable than anything else I have ever seen.

Holy hell, I wish my IPSC class counted for my state's CCW license!

Congratulations, though. I'm looking at getting mine right now, more or less so I can carry the loaded gun in the car... I work at a University so carrying is pretty well right out, but I'd like to have the damn thing in the car.
