currently I really like the George Washington Court Sword by Paul Chen. It's a real dueling epee and a replica of *surprise* George Washingtons sword.

Actually, because it is a no-nonsense, tough as nails blade. I feel like I could hack down a redwood with this thing! (not that I'd ever need too, but I could if I wanted! )

The sword from braveheart kicked a lot of ass, as did those ivory ones that russel crow had at the start of gladiator. *Sigh* im uncultured, i know little about swords

Here's my swords...... My favorite would be the Saber, but if I had to chose one for battle it would be the Samurai

the sword carried in "Braveheart" was, if I remember right, something like a 4 or 5 foot Claymore. good sword, double edged, double handed, and powerful as all heck, but rather slow compared to most swords. The sword carried in Gladiator (of the various swords shown in the movie, I refer to those used in the arena the most) was most likely a Gladius. Roman shortsword, well-balanced, double edged, and usually one handed, to be used with a shield (I think). If memory serves, it was better for stabbing than slashing, though relatively lightweight. Personally, I favor a katana, both for the edge and the weight, even though it's not the best for stabbing, nor for chopping, really. Slashing, though, you'd have a hard time finding a better sword.

I really like the sword used by Blade. Blade of the Daywalker I think it is called. The blade on it looks awesome and the hilt is sweet too!

personaly I favor a museum replicas Falchion (german) with modified ( bulked up) grip- It hangs well on my baldric, isnt too long for working behind my booth, and survived a session hacking on my "Olde stump of testing" (a 5' tall 18" across elm stump in my back yard)

I like blunt weapons. A good Thames Mace makes me a happy man. As far as swords go, I'm partial to MR's Irish-hilted Claymore. Dead gorgeous sword and has a practical handle. Good friend of mine received one as a wedding present from his wife. All of us immediately told him tthat she's a keeper.

Hidden weapons. So hot. I guess I'd feel kind of stupid carrying it around, but if I were debilitated (by age or disease) to the point of needing a walking stick you'd see me shuffling around with this and a smile on my face.

Blade's sword would be sweet, as long as I could have the trenchcoat/hilt combination too!
Anyways, probably a katana or samurai sword for battle. For dress nothing beats my dad's Naval Academy saber.

I have his sword from the movies. The grip is ass to hold in yer hand. But over all looks. It is bad ass. It comes sharpened as well.

Have a few swords of LoTR's to.

If the sword was actually sharp, I would say it would be a fast, functional design. The blade would have to be very thin though.

I think my favorite sword would have to be the sword that sean connery had in the movie highlander. I believe it was a japanese sword. I also love a good battle axe.

I'll go by region.

Western europe - Claymore, easily. Big, beautiful, vicious swords. Designed not to hack people, but to hack horses. Often weren't even sharpened - you were supposed to break the horses legs, then kill its rider who would be pinned to the ground by the weight of his own armor. Usually between 54 and 60 inches in length, 9-15 lbs in weight, depending on steel used (mine is 1050 high carbon stage combat steel). Eastern Europe - Großmesser. Another big sword, though not quite as large as the claymore. Usually between 42 and 48 inches in length, 6-10 lbs. Single edged, slightly curved at the end. Used by german frontline soldiers to hack off the heads of pikes and to smash shields apart. Very basic design - straight wood handle, cast-iron guard, wide, single-edged blade. Asia - The chinese Dadao. This thing is just mean looking. Particularly Paul Chen's styled Dadao - it looks like a giant, fancy meat cleaver. Generally used two-handed because it's so top-blade-heavy. 28-36'', 3-6 lbs. These were used in China even up until the Sino revolution of the 1930's. Erm, not quite. Any period, and any battlefield, that saw a two-handed claymore in use would've also had cavalry wearing perfectly worthwhile armour that was easily maneuvered in on the ground. The rider was more likely disabled by his mounts violent fall than the weight of his kit. Insofar as the claymore being designed to kill horses, that's debatable. I would say that it was designed to kill the English, be it horse, man, whatever =)

I really liked the katana Sean Connery used in Highlander. My least favorite sword was the stupid triple bladed two shoot out thing from the movie "The Sword and the Sorcerer".

Im a big fan of the Katana. But apparently the Batleth out of star trek is based of a type of japanese sword. Ive never seen it in any book or any dojo. Does anyone know what its called? I reakon that would be a mad weapon to weild though.

I believe the sword used in Braveheart was a slightly modified Zweihander, a very long German claymore that required two hands to wield (hence the name).

My two favorite swords are Chinese in origin and were both used by Ms. Yeoh in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", when she battled that young girl with Green Destiny (the Chinese "lionhead" longsword): a saber that splits in two and the hooked sword with spiked guard used for disarming. The latter looks especially wicked.

I'm also partial to the wakisashi, the katana's shorter version used by masters of the Daisho style, which used both blades at the same time (katana for slashing/chopping and the wakisashi for parrying/stabbing). The wakisashi is closer in that respect to the ninja katana, which has a shorter, straighter blade and was most often used as a tool rather than a weapon.

The Brave Heart sword was a basic two hander, with a leather wrap on the ricasso for choking up in close,- NOTE this type of sword was in use in almost all of western europe- It is not unique to scotland, the true Claymore came later.

Batleth- I have heard that it was a defensive weapon from china- but have never been able to verify or find info from any good source.

www.angelsword.com they have some sweet blades.. price is alof at times but fun to cruize thier site.

although my two fav types of swords are a basket rapier and a scottish claymore..

rapier are nice for fast attacks.. but nothing .. i mean nothing beats a ye old hack master fest with a scottish claymore..

I forgot about them. At the Vegas Classic knife show I got to handle a few of their swords.

The guy who was running the booth even bent a sword around to touch itself right in front of me!

Kewl swords. I need to take a some shots of mine. I have two broad swords, claymore like; one Katana; 2 artist shortswords; 1 longsword; 1 pair of Sai. The Sai are my favs. They are really beat up. I'm rusty as hell with them now. And as for who made the swords in KBV1, there is no listing of a swordsmith or weaponsmith in the full credits. So they may just be kick ass props or property of one of the matial arts trainers.

Yeah that Robert Jordan Wheel of Time sword is like, my dream sword just for the fact that I want to replicate the scene from the book where rand uses the "suicidal" maneuver on..was it Ishmael? gets stabbed by the staff thing and get his first heron marks burned in on his hands

You can buy a very nice longsword or katana from a professional swordsmith and have someone etch the heron in... I've thought about that a few times...

Actually it is very sturdy and probably one of the better balanced swords i've ever handled. My only complaint is that it feels a bit small, not quite the size of a katana.

You have to remember that RJ personally over saw the production of the blade and insisted on a "authentic" replication.
