Fair price for Glocks?
I just went by a place and they had the Glock 40 cals for $499.00 brand new and they had two used ones for $425.00 each.
These pretty good prices or no |
Oh yeah, and will the .357 caliber Glock also shoot .38 rounds like the revolvers?
|
No the .357 can't shoot .38, it's not a revolver, and .357 sig and magnum are not the same thing.
If you shop around at gun shows you might get a better price, those are MSRP, and a bit high for used (depending on how used). You should consider in more detail what caliber you plan on purchasing. You won't find a better price on the internet thanks to shipping and FFL costs, it will always end up being what you could get straight from the dealer or at a gun show. I would strongly recommend you go to the next one in your area and just talk to people about the gun you are planning on purchasing. Tell them what your using it for. That's the reason they are there. To sell you the firearm that matches your needs. Glocks are da bomb IMO... I can't shoot anything else comfortably and I am sure there is one that matches your needs. |
(bites tongue on Glocks)
Sounds a bit high. I would shop around before I would jump at $499. Course, for a couple of hundred more, you could get yourself a SIG or an H&K... |

Or for a few hundred less, you can get a Springfield XD, which by all accounts is better than the Glock while offering an almost identical feature set.
I like my XD. I hate Springfield's service, though... buy one that isn't broken :) |
xd is a very nice gun. hey vanbeast what model do you have?
mine is xd9, i just got a new 25rd mag for it. well its actualy for sig but i modified it to work with my xd. |
*shrug* I really like my Glock, though mine is a bit old nowadays. Price is only a tad high for local shops. You could get a better deal most likely.
|
Most important thing is to try before you buy. Some people (like me) find that guns from H&K and Sig just don't shoot comfortably. For me the percieved recoil in a USP 9mm is about what I get from firing .357 magnum... that's just because my hands don't fit on the gun so I can't stabilize it.
|
SA-XD I've also got the XD-9. I've been thinking about picking up one of the Taurus 30-rd mags from CDNN. That could be fun :)
|
be careful on those cheap glock prices. being in the gun buisness myself i get flyers and brochures all the time selling refurbished glocks. they are like new with the warrenty and everything. i guess their ok but i'd rather pay a few more bucks for a new in box weapon... at least most of my customers do.

Listen not to these heathens!
Glocks are great guns, they shoot forever and they work. Period. They may not have the fancy features of some other pistols, but they were designed as a combat handgun, no frills. That being said, $499 is a bit high. I'd go for a used one myself, just make sure it is still covered under warranty. If you have any friends who are cops you can ask one of them to buy it for you, they can get 'em for around $300... |
Heathens! Bah!
The only differences between the Glock and the XD are that the XD doesn't have the ridiculous grip angle, high price, or drooling fanatical fanbase that the Glock has. ;) |
I'm not knocking the XD, I think it is one hell of a gun.
Grip angle is a personal preferance issue, if you don't like the Glock I would recommend a Springfield. I like my Glock because, among other reasons, the barrel is very low to the grip, resulting in less felt recoil (actually less angular momentum during recoil). Glock does have a reputation for reliability that is hard to beat. It will be interesting to see how the XD stacks up in few years... |
I know, I know, I was just playing around :)
The question of reliability is interesting... a lot of non-Glockers think they aren't very reliable. The hardcore Glockers think they are completely reliable. It's the same as the 1911 debate. I'm not saying you're wrong, just pointing it out. One thing that isn't well known about the XD is that the design started (prototypically) around 1995. It's not as new as folks think. All things considered, I'd rather have a Kimber anyway. |
