Article on 16th Century Weapons
 

I found an article discussing, among other things, the technical details of weapons used during the 16th century. It includes diagrams of canons, crossbows, matchlock rifles, and the composite bow with some steps of their construction. The tactical results of the construction process is also examined.
Surprisingly helpful was the insight into the nature of the individuals who fought using early gunpowder weapons. I had never considered the possibility that an arquebusier would have more in common with a Roman archer than a modern soldier. According to the article, basic profficiency with the early guns took years of experience.
