Japanese Swordsmanship
Does anyone, by any chance, know where I could learn the art of Japanese swordsmanship (with the exception of JAPAN please... that's kinda inconvenient for a boy living in Indiana). This is easily my latest and greatest passion.
Just post thoughts here. I don't really care if it's a location. Do you think it would be cool to be a samurai?

Try looking for Iai-do(sp?) which is, I think, the art of drawing the sword, and Iai-jit-su(sp?), which is the art of fighting with the sword. Kendo, also, is a good place to start, I would think. Better to get thwacked with a stick than with a blade, IMHO.
edit: http://www.indiana.edu/~iaido/ a iaido club at University of Indiana

Kendo is a sport-based art modeled on the traditional sword techniques. Players use bamboo 'shinai' and wear full body armour and compete in full contact sparring matches, where you can only strike the opponents head, chest, wrists, and sometimes throat.
Kenjutsu is the traditional study of sword techniques, forms, and cutting practice... no sparring just technique and focus. Iaido or iaijutsu is the art of drawing the sword... lighter swords are used and lightning fast drawing and sheathing of the sword is emphasized, to kill with a single technique. There will be FAR more kendo clubs around than reputable kenjutsu or iaido clubs... look up a kendo club, or go talk to the teachers/owners of other martial arts clubs in your area (aikido has some sword training as well... a good aikido teacher might be able to direct you) edit: looked at the iaido club link above... they're legit - go there if you can.

Actually, I'm in an Aikido club currently. My Sensei definitely knows her shit.
I'll have to ask her if she's aware of any places. Thanks for the help.
