Shotguns

Due to the laws here we are limited to shotguns and small cal rifles.
This has led me to be active in competitive clay shooting.
I have an AYA u/o mc which I use for most of my shooting, but lately have used a friends Browning 28 which I find throws up very well and has a comfortable swing to it.
I shoot alot of sporting traps but also enjoy competition down the line.
Are there any other TFP members involved in this sport? and what is your shotgun of choice and personal fav trap bird?

Yep, I shoot trap, skeet and sporting clays, but I love sporting clays the best. I use a Beretta 391 Eurika sporting clays.

I've only shot once in the last 1.5 years (since I bought my "farm"), but I'm hoping to get back in the groove again. Favorite bird? I don't know, I like them all. I like SC for the challenge it provides. Trap and Skeet become boring after a while when it becomes a matter of how many straight sets you can put together instead of how many times you can manage to do one.

I envy all of you skeet/trap/sporting clays shooters ! Being mostly a rifle shooter I tend to stop the swing of my scattergun when I pull the trigger . I have NO follow thru ! IT REALLY SUCKS TO HAVE THIS AFFLICTION ! Not to mention the missed clays and the ridicule . *sigh* Well, you cant excel in everything .
The only bird hunting that I do is Goose . We call em' in over decoys and I pinwheel the goose with my Remington 10 gage autoloader . No Swing , no ridicule , just some nice goose breasts to cook on the grill .Beside that ... skeet tastes AWFUL ! No mater how long you marinate it !

well im in the sport, however i believe that whatever you get, make sure you can fire accurate shots quickly.. for this i recommend a over-under barrel

The o/u isn't really required for that. In fact, just to get technical, there are shooters who can fire a pump-action just as fast as a semi-auto or o/u.

The trend among the pros (according to what I read) is towards semi-autos now. I love the look and feel of o/u's but I can't afford one anyway. There are some pros and cons to both, but it boils down to what you're most comfortable with.

I haven't shot trap for a long time but my favorite shotgun is my Pieper Herstal Belgique, A side by side double barrel 12 gauge I picked up years ago..... 29 1/2 inch barrels choked so tight a dime won't fit down the barrel! My old 1960 870 Pump is a great gun too, made back when ALL the parts were machined smooth.....

I know in competition down the line semis are not looked upon kindly here, esp when you are on the next peg and get hit with the ejecting cartridge.
I have used one and found depending on the direction of the wind you got powder residue in your eyes.

Hmm. YRMV I guess. No one should be standing in the area that a semi-auto would eject. I guess you haven't been hit in the face by shells when standing behind a guy opening an o/u?

Never had a problem with powder, and I've been shooting for 22 years now.

Like I said, it's just a matter of what you like, and how much you care about what others think of your gear.

I have a Benelli 12ga pump that I use for duck and geese. I also use it for grouse and ptarmigan while hunting big game.

I have the same sucky affliction as marco but I can overcome it if I concentrate like crazy.

*sigh* I wish I could handle a shotgun too, but I'm a competition shooter with rifle and I just can't hit anything but air with a shotgun. Too bad I only have license to hunt with a shotgun so far.
