Thompson Center have very nice Muzzleloaders, if you can get ahold of a .55 cal Renigade its a amazing rifle.
You may only be able to buy the kit for it nowadays but my dad has one I have one and my little brother has one. My dads is about 25 years old and still shoots/looks amazing.

Im just looking for a good, accurate rifle for not too much money. I have a .308 tricked out Savage that I use for hunting/long range comp. I also have an AR-15 that I blow stuff up with. Just want something thats black powder, muzzleloading, .50+ that I can take to the range every now and again to shoot paper with. I checked out Thompson Center (thanks Menoman), and found some pretty nice rifles. Any other places come to mind?

I have a CVA Hawking that I really like. It has double triggers so if you have time, you can pull one to set the other, making it a hair trigger.
The rifle was very accurate (about 3" at a hundred yards) when I took the time to be consistent, and it is short enough to be a practical hunting rifle. The sights were very good and adjustable, and the price was low (about 200, I think). It is a .50 caliber percussion.

I have a CVA Bobcat, .50 cal. percussion. Very light and accurate (if you keep it clean). But I bought mine from a friend for $45, but they usually sale for in the ~$100 range.
CVA has a website www.cva.com that you can look up a dealer near you. |

Nope , I only use suppository guns ( they load in the rear - bolt actions ) I cant wait for all the smoke to clear to see if I hit the target . Also there is that little problem of smoking around Black Powder .

I’ve done it before, it was lots of fun, I’m more accurate with a 50 cal percussion muzzle loader then a 22.

On a little side note, I just ordered a Mossberg 500 shotgun, and apparently mossberg makes a .50 cal. muzzleloading barrel that you can swap out with the factory barrel to make your shotgun a temporary black powder rifle.
I don't know how practical it really is, but it's an interesting idea at least.

Stay away from the CVA hunter. The trigger on that sucks. It pulls hard as hell and is just a cheap crappy gun. Also look in to Kentucky long rifles. I had a .45 cal long rifle, it was cool as hell. You cold also look in to a brown bess, at .75 cal that thing will knock you on your ass and drop anything you are shooting at.
