What Are Your Swords Named

My swords name is Suzy? Whats yours?>

debaser 07-31-2003 08:57 PM

Hmmmm, never thought of naming them. My first Bradley was named after a sword though ("Claymore"), so maybe I should name them after armored vehicles...

MSD 07-31-2003 09:05 PM

It has no name. It is dark and mysterious, like the Ninja who wields it.

Slims 07-31-2003 09:17 PM

Tizona.

Actually, I haven't named mine, I feel like it would be tacky.

I agree with him, however its tacky to name your penis too, but people still do that :D

Then again a name for a penis has benifts. The General is feeling lonely. Its like your helping a sick friend or something when you bassically just said give me sex now.

I haven't named my sword, perhaps I should call it Xiepoo :-D

Phaenx 08-02-2003 05:48 PM

It's supposedly traditional for a person to name their sword back when they were commonly used. That or a guy I was talking with at the dentists office was jerking my chain.

JStrider 08-02-2003 10:11 PM

many of the swords in LOTR have names....

Frodos sword given by Bilbo was named Sting

Gandalfs sword was named Glamdring

the sword that cut the ring from saurons finger had 2 names... one before it was broken... and one after it was reforged... before it was broken it was named Narsil (i have a replica of this one) and i dont know what the name was after it was reforged...

in many fantasy books its common for a sword to be named... i dont know if they really did that a long time ago or not...

you see it in some of the viking sagas, and in beowulf, generaly a sword had to do something notable to merit a name.

Aragorn named it "Anduril" after it was reforged.
There were more also, though I can't remember.

In the Hobbit Thorin's sword was called "Orcrist".

Peetster 08-03-2003 12:16 PM

Never named it. This is my US Navy Officers' Ceremonial Sword.

Agree. None of my swords (3 total) have done much of note, and i would like to keep it that way.

Apokx 08-03-2003 11:36 PM

One of my swords is named "The Sword of Earth"

I never called it that, that was on the tag~

I imagine mine would be something tacky like "Soul Crusher/Eater/Drinker/Devourer" ~

It's all good though.

KwKouki 08-04-2003 09:49 PM

I have a miyamoto musashi katana hanging on my wall right now called "This is closer than my gun, and more fun to use" I am waiting to have enough money to order my dream sword, the Golden Oriole. I have been a fan of samurai katanas my whole life. I bought a 8 sword wall display a month ago. so far I have the Musashi, a Paul Chen Practical +, and a Zatoichi (I think I spelled that right)

RiceGuy 08-06-2003 04:32 PM

My big ol' hand and a half sword is called Loki, because...well, because Loki is damn cool, and would be honored to have a well made bastard sword named after him.

jd anderson 08-08-2003 05:41 PM

well..., i don't have a sword; but if i did, i think it would probably be something like 'tralfamadore's revenge' or 'ire of pharoh'.

ctembreull 08-09-2003 09:17 AM

None of my blades are named; it's considered tacky and immature. Guitars, you can name. Cars, you can name. Even genitals, his *and* hers. But swords? Nuh-uh. That said, however, my basket-hilt claymore has been referred to as "that old busted-up piece of shit." Hah. They can laugh. The balance is perfect, even if it is old and busted up.

Fremen 08-11-2003 09:43 PM

My katana is named "Trusty Dusty".
She may be dusty, but her blade trusty. ;)

killerjoejoe 08-18-2003 02:47 PM

"Mr. Big" and "Mrs. Kung-Pow" are the names of my Knife and sword

bundy 08-21-2003 08:24 PM

i call my sword, wilbur.

Czernobog 08-21-2003 10:58 PM

I have a katana named Hunhau, who was the mayan god of death (yes, a mayan name for a japanese sword. don't ask). Also a bastard sword named Fanindra, the cosmic serpent.

Oh, and a guitar named Annabelle Lee.:D

ForgottenKnight 09-05-2003 04:11 PM

I never thought of naming my swords...I call them by the type...foil, epee, sabre...dry or electric...etc.

LordEden 09-06-2003 12:22 AM

I've never thought of naming a sword, unless I forged it myself and it didn't look like a piece of shit, but otherwise I wouldn't name it. Only a really REALLY cool sword gets a name, the rest are all just swords. On a side note my girlfriend calls her sword her "sharp pointy thingy" because it's a huge knife (dirk to be correct) and she wants to poke people with it all the time.
