Post your favorite handgun!
For me it's the Glock 21. It's a .45 so it packs a nice punch, it's automatic, and it just feels good in my hand.

Sig p228 never used a real one, only used it in counter-strike. |
|
The Glock 21. But I'd also love to have a .44 Desert Eagle or .44 Automag, because they're cool like that.
|
|
Pistole Modell 1908 (Luger). Classic, poweful, creative and extremely easy to tell from other handguns. I would post a picture but I dont know how to.
|
Glock 31
Same pic as Peetster pretty much, except it's chambered for .357 sig. .357 sig, for those who don't know is fairly similar to the .357 magnum of great fame. It's not quite the same, but packs the same punch.
Quite a bit more punch then the .45 ;-) it depends what ammo you use though. http://www.pmcammo.com/handgun/handgun_ballistics.html 500 foot pounds of force on impact. It doesn't feel like it though because the actual mass/velocity relationship is real nice. Glocks also just grow on you after a while. We'd all love to own one of the new desert eagles, you can buy one frame that supports all 3 DE calibers for 3.6k (.50 AE, .44 Magnum, .357 Magnum) Is this forum new? I don't remember seeing it in the past. |
Glock 17. I like the 17L also, but it is cumbersome to carry.

Both numberfive and JStrider took the words right out of my mouth. Both of those guns are my favorite. The power, man, the power!

This is my carry gun, and I absolutely love it. I go to the range at least once a week and have put probably 3000-5000 rounds through it. I have shot all kinds of ammuniition (mostly whatever is cheapest) including lead, and have not had a single misfire, jam, or failure of any kind. It is just small enough that I can conceal it during the summer (I am pretty skinny), but it is large enough to enjoy shooting at the range. |
My favorite is the Colt 1911. Or as the one I own, the Colt 1991. Beautiful handguns. And parts are very plentiful. Very customizable.
|
I have a HK MK23,HK USP 9 mm,Glock mdl19,Glockmdl30CZ85,S&w 686,S&W630scadium,just to name some of my carry weapons

you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that the the recoil is redicoulous to the point of lunacy. I don't care if the handel has sorbathane or whatever its to much of a gun for 90% of shooters out there the guys out there that could fire a gun like that don't need a gun they can just tear a person or an animal limb from limb with there bare hands :D |

I'd put this | | that far over the luger, I just got a passion for the 1911 :D kinda a shitty picture i wanted one of secruity arms, but its impossible to link from them anymore, and i don't have an image hoster at the momment. |
Glock 21, shame i cant own one.. Properley..
|
bretta 9mm
|
I use a ruger mark1 for target practice on the range and find it very accurate over 25meters with rapid fire, but carry a clock19 at work(security)Plenty of stopping power.
|
My favorite so far
This here is what I carry:
http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/images/Products/8145H.gif I bought it used, had to replace the magazine lock. Also replace the grips with Hogue grips, put new front sites on, and added a heavy duty recoil spring/rod. |
Just finished a comp at my club.
I used a Colt Trooper MkIII in 357. 6 inch barrell. Best group: (6 shots) 2.9" from 20 meters. Free standing, timed shoot. Not world standard, but I won the day. (BSA red dot attached) Also have a couple of .22 plinkers. Browning and a beretta |
Here's my choice (Glock 27 .40):
http://remtek.com/arms/glock/model/40/27/27.gif The wife totes this on the job (SigArms P226 .40 S&W w/ 12 rd. Mag) http://www.combat-online.com/sig.gif And this is our other frame (SigArms P232 .380) http://world.guns.ru/handguns/p232.jpg |

Um, you've shot one? The recoil is entirely manageable. The weight of the gun, especially with the bull barrel, helps tame the sharpness of the recoil, leaving only a strong push/rise. I've personally fired guns like this (Ruger Super Blackhawk, Ruger Redhawk) one-handed with zero problems. It is all in how you holw it and not being afraid of it. .44 Magnums are quite easy to shoot and highly accurrate if you know what you are doing. |
Oh, favorite handgun is S&W M-686. The one I have was given to me when I was about 12 by my grandparents on my Dad's side. They're both long gone, so the revolver has even more sentimental value. It also helps that it is dead accurrate and entirely reliable.
Favorite auto would be Glock 19. Handy, light, comfortable, shoots good. |

this is my bad boy, but in black. i had the .357 interchangeable barrel, but i gave that to my buddy so now it's only a .40 S&W. looking to get the sights tipped with that radioactive element so it glows in the dark (can't spell that trachi- word) --sorry, i thought you could see the name, it's a SigSauer P229. *drools* my buddy has a Kimber, lucky bastard |
too lazy to find pic, the greatest magnum.
The 50 cal Desert Eagle, come on a DE just reeks of coolness. Although a good glock is practically indestructable. |
I own several different handguns so its hard to pick my favorite. But here are my top three:
#1 a Colt .357 King Cobra revolver made of shining stainless steel with a 6'' snub nose barrel, #2 Springfield 45 model 1911 with a packmayr grip, much like the one pictured earlier by the Lunatic, #3 a Smith & Wesson 9mm model 5903 with high capacity magazines. |
favorite weapon..colt .45 accurate and great stopping power, which those 9mm lack severly, if ya want just straight blow your head off power? .454 the new most powerful hand gun, but the recoil on those is a bit much to make it practical=)
|
6" snub-nose? Aroo?
|
I have always been partial to the Glock 17/17C. But I found a new one I like as well. The USP Tactical/USP MK 23. Wonderful recoil and very lightweight.
|
m1911a1. Best semiauto man killing weapon ever made. 45-50k rounds routinely. Ask any armourer and they will tell you they have never seen anything hold up like one. Few make them like they used to. Avoid weapons actually manufactured during a conflict (i.e. ww1, ww2, kor, Viet), as a lot of corners were cut 'for the war effort.'
I have an old one (korean war era) made by the Singer sewing machine company. She doesn't see much action. My current range/IDPA/bedside table gun is a little s&w sigma in nine. Appropriately placed double taps with this beauty land on target and effectively difuse situations. I trust it for points and home defense. Walmart sells boxes of 100 for $17.99. She has probably 5500 bullets through the muzzle, and is starting to show pitting and maring on the barrel and slides. I don't suspect I'll trust it all that much come 10000 rounds. My next piece will be a Sig-Sauer. Haven't decided on caliber or config but I believe Sig makes the finest semi auto weapons going right now. Every one I've fired was fluid and accurate. Alot to be said for a good old fashioned Smith and Wesson 'Highway Patrolmen' 357 magnum, 4 inch revolver. Six shots requires skill and a sure hand, though. |
http://world.guns.ru/handguns/beretta92.jpg
That's my personal open-carry gun. It's not as light as a Glock nor does it carry as much ammo, but I use a preban with the 15 round mags. It works just fine and is as reliable as hell. For conceled I generally prefer the Glock 26. Its another nice 9mm that accepts mags from the 17 and 19 for extra ammo capacity when you need it, provided you can get your hands on the preban mags. Years ago I had a wheel-gun made for me that was called a ' Smython '. It's a S&W M686- L-Frame with a 4 in Colt Python Bbl.
I had the action done at ' Actions by T ' out of Texas . With the proper hand-loads this gun in .357/.38 Cal. would out-shoot target guns of twice it's cost up too 50 yards . After 2000 rounds plus through this pistol the lock-up is still tight and it is still as highly accurate as the day I bought it . Plus it brings ' Oohs and Awes 'at the range for it is 1/4 engraved with a high polish . If any pistol's in my collection ( I was a Hobby/Dealer for 9 years )were an extension of my penis ... it would be this one .;) |
I own a baretta 92f, its what I first shot and am most comfortable with. I want to switch to an H&k usp 40

Colt 1911A1 Mil-Spec. Greatest pistol in the world. I don't own one yet, but some day I will. |
I've got a pair of Springfield "loaded" 1911a1's in Stainless Steel. They've got the hogue wrap-around grips, match barrels, ambi-safety. Lots of fun to take out to the range and get my john woo on. ;) Seriously though, the 1911a1 is my favorite handgun platform, because there are so many modifications that can be done to them.

I have a Steyr M9. Truly innovative design. There are several safety features and the sights are incredible.
The sights are "trapezoidal" sights which are patented by Steyr. They are supposed to be the fastest aquisition sights out there for hitting a person sized target. The front sight is a triangle and the back sights are angled lines. You can learn more about the gun on this site: http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/wa...a/steyr_m9.htm Great for fast aquisition of larger targets, but extremely hard to get proficient at hitting smaller targets like plunking cans. Great for sillohuette targets, though. |
hmmmmm Favorite Handgun?
That's a tuff' one. I would have to say the SIG P226 though. An Outstanding Weapon, I can't say enough good things about it. And I can't say Anything bad about it. A nice picture is Here. For more information please visit the SIG Arms web-site |
That SOCOM would be a swingin find! I like the feel of the traditional Beretta 92 fs.

Seriously, I already own my favorite handgun, the original Springfield produced Colt 1911. I can't find a damn thing wrong with it. It works, it hits hard, it cuts it dead-center. Fine pistol. John Browning was a Genius, a man for all seasons. |
I've never held a handgun before, much less shot one (so take my opinion with a grain of salt). Based on my experience playing Counter-Strike, shooting BB guns and target rifles & 12-gauge shotguns, and in archery, I'd probably like a Desert Eagle.
But honestly, what I'd really like is a long-range scope sniper rifle. It'd rock to knock off a pop can at 1000 feet! |
oberon,
You wouldn't need a long range sniper rifle for 1000 feet (333 yds), just a pretty good rifle, like a match grade AR15. |
I personally like my Springfield XD-40... reliable, accurate, and inexpensive
http://www.springfield-armory.com/im...D9402Large.jpg |
Ugh. Why do people want Desert Eagles? I've never understood that.
I'm sorry, but especially when you say "From playing Counterstrike" it just pains those of us who actually know what we're talking about. |
Hey! The Desert Eagle makes quite a formidable throwing implement when it's jammed!
In all seriousness, it's a niche pistol. Big bore semi-automatic. Really has no tactical application, but that doesn't mean that it's not fun to shoot. I definitely wouldn't turn one down if somebody offered one to me. :) |
Fair point. I've not fired one. I'm just not that interested in a .50AE handgun :) That's a lot of cartridge.
The Baby Eagle is a pretty cool little gun... it's like a scaled-down DE, right? |
The baby eagle is distantly related. The DE was originally manufactured by IMI (corrections?) who also developed the baby eagle as a practical gun, it's available in 9MM I believe and maybe .45. I'm to lazy to check
The DE wasn't really meant to be practical it was more proof of concept I believe... |
IMI and Magnum Research are one and the same (as far as I know). I believe the Baby Eagle is in 9mm only, possibly in .40s&w.
Both are made by IMI/MR. Can't speak towards the practicality aspect... all I know is that IMI got themselves a good gun for the movies :) |
The main purpose of the Deagle was to prove that a semiautomatic pistol could be chambered for the 0.50 AE round, which had never been done before.
From what I understand (and I am by no means a gun expert), Desert Eagles are actually rather accurate. They're definitely designed more for style than for a tactical situation (if you visit Magnum's website, you'll notice they offer more finishing options than gun parts), but they can still get the job done. I want to purchase a pistol soon, and I'm thinking of the 1911. John Browning was definitely a god, and the 1911 has stood the test of time like no other. The frame is also pretty large, so my hands should be rather comfortable with it. |
I'm sorry to pick nits, but around (most) gun folk, your credibility drops to zero if you refer to them as "Deagles". I've not heard they were accurate... in fact, I can't say I've heard one way or the other. The Baby Eagles are supposed to be pretty good. IMI/MR has a reputation of quality, so I expect the DE is a good gun.
If you haven't handled a lot of guns, you may be surprised by what fits your hands. Sure, a 1911 has a large frame, but being a single-stack gun, the grip is narrow. There are a lot of things that make up the "fit" of a gun. Go to the shop, put your hands on everything in your price range. Find a gun that feels right, and buy it. Try to find a rental range and go shoot first. I bought my XD without having shot it. It's a good gun, and it fits well, but when you hold it in the shop and when you point it at your target, it's two different things. I'm pretty disappointed, and I think that if I had shot it first the story would be different. I really want a 1911, mostly because they are classics and I need a .45. Do yourself a favor when you are looking at 1911's, only look at quality brands... Kimber, Colt, Springfield... check out the dedicated gun forums for more info.... [The High Road] and [1911 Forum] as well as many others. |
Personally, I like the Colt 1911...its a sweet shooter...and unique
|
Unique? How so? The Colt 1911 is the most copied design in the firearms world.
I don't know much about modern advances in 1911's... does Colt have some new cool stuff? I'm trying to finalize on a 1911 brand to buy. |
I really miss my 8 inch barrel Python :-(
My next will probably be a Ruger, as those are what I can get deals on. The Taurus pistols were well made, but being Titanium, it was far too light for me, I need something with some weight to it. |
WarWagon: you talking revolvers? I don't think Taurus makes a Ti semi...
I'm a big fan of S&W revolvers, though I don't own one presently... they seem to be the classic standard. Most of the ruger revolvers I've seen are the cowboy style owns, which just don't appeal to me visually. |
series 70 Colt 1911 or Gold Cup or Browning Hi-Power Belgium made not import shit
|
For those looking at a 1911: Not to sound like a SIG fanboy, but try the SIG P220 if you're looking for a single stack .45 handgun. The trigger's a little different, as well as the fact that the SIG is DA/SA instead of pure SA, which will let you avoid the problem of having to carry it cocked if you do decide to carry (well, not a problem, per se, but more of something that would make a new person uncomfortable). Plus, the SIG is only about $6-700, location dependent (probably less outside of where I live), is ridiculously accurate, and feels like a dream to shoot.
|
pointfourfive: You can get a good 1911 for less than that, and a great one for the same price.
SIG parts are less plentiful, mags are MUCH more expensive. 1911's are harder to work on and (in that range) likely less accurate out of the box... however, parts are DIRT CHEAP, including mags. Having said that, I hadn't even considered the 220. I'm going to have to look into it :) |
H&K Mark23 SOCOM, sooo cool
|
I"m a short girl with small hands so I really love the 45 officer's model that I used to have. I miss it *sniff* My ex has it, along with my house, car, and my CAT.
|
YIKES. I lost my cat to my last ex :( I feel your pain. She would never have taken my gun, though.
|
SOCOM definately
|
I would like to get a sig p228 or p229.
I have a airsoft sig p229 which weighs exactly the same. Its heavy for a aifsoft gun. Its powered by Gas. |
It's been named but i haven't seen any pictures yet. This is the only handgun I own. It was a gift from my wife last Christmas. God I love her. :) I'd love to have a Glock in 40 cal for concealed carry, though.
