New Pistol!

Bought a kel tec pf9 today!!! I've been looking for one for months now, little bastards are hard to find. I plan on carrying this little guy in the summer months since it's easily concealed.

Nice little gun. I can't decide between it and the Walther PPS, myself.

Now all you need to do is the "Fluff 'n Buff" as suggested on Kel-Tec Owners' Group website.

Here's a good guide for self defense ammo.

Please take pictures of it at the range. What holster are you going to carry it in?

Thanks, but I'm not sure I feel comfortable doing the "fluff 'n buff" myself. maybe the feed ramp, but not the slide or other metal parts.

Well, shoot it first obviously. It might not need any work.

I just make it a habit with Kel-Tec guns because the fit and finish is atrocious even if the gun is a good shooter.

They must save a lot of money on leaving them ugly inside.

thanks for the advice. I cleaned all the factory goop off it and will probably shoot it in the next few days.

I was torn between the p11 and the pf9, but once I felt the trigger on the p11, that pretty much ruled it out.

Nice PF9, I love mine. If you don't feel comfortable doing the whole fluff and buff, just do the easy and most important things: field strip it, polish the feed ramp leading into the chamber a little, and pull the firing pin to clear any debris from the channel with a just-barely-fits drill bit held in your hand and not rotated, just gently pushed in and out...not anything that could actually screw your gun up. If there aren't good instructions for this, I can make a quick youtube video for you.

I was getting some feeding issues with JHPs before I polished the feed ramp (I was also trying to use 147g), but that went away once I did. Also, I was getting light strikes on some hard primer FMJ before I gently reamed the firing pin channel--a bunch of brass dust came out, and I shot through 300 rounds of the same ammo with no failures. It's dead nuts reliable now, and I carry it every day. They are constantly making improvements and maybe those things won't be needed to yours.

Oh, if there is a visible seam on the backstrap of the plastic grip, I'd sand it down to flush--mine out of the box had a parting line right there and it cut into the web of my hand a little if I was shooting more than a couple hundred rounds in a single sitting.

I like the look of that gun, I've been looking at Kal Tec pistols for my next purchase (when I get the money for my CCW).

TK, you say after a little after-market alteration it was a comfortable fit to your hand at the range?

Thanks. I actually think it's one of the ugliest guns I've ever seen. But I've been wanting a 9mm for a while now, and kel tec seemed to be the best fit for practicality and affordability.

Yep, it's literally just sanding down the plastic seam.

So I finally got to the range yesterday! Fired 100 WWB target rounds, with 8 FTE. I attribute this to limp wristing. accuracy beyond 15 to 20 feet is dismal, but that's not what it was built for. I like it so far, but still need another 200-400 rounds to get through the break in period. Problem is, after about 50 rounds or so, it becomes miserable to shoot. pretty rough on the hands.
