Nice weapon man. When's the first shooting date?

Well, hopefully tomorrow. I'm off, however that's not common. I'll take my five year old girl to ballet and we'll eat after. While eating, I'll be all like - "Hey babe, you and the girl want to go to the range with me?"

lol. We'll see how that flies. If not, one of my off mornings next week.

cj2112 03-05-2010 04:11 PM

Very nice. I can't wait to hear your report after some time at the range!

Plan9 03-05-2010 11:48 PM

You waited 11 months for that snubnose 7.62 rifle and didn't even put a rubber mat under it?

ChrisJericho 03-06-2010 12:40 AM

That gun is sexy !

geeza 03-06-2010 05:16 AM

Excellent weapon. So where's the report?! What state are you in?

Really good to see a battle rifle connoisseur out there.

It's getting a paint job. Duracoat Urban or Urban Mirageflage. Besides, you can bet your arse I set it down ever so gently ;-) I was excited and the sun was going down...

Wow, those new Duracoat camo patterns are ugly as hell. I had my RobArms M96 done in matte OD.

Also: Getting an "urban" finish will dramatically lower the resale value of your pricey firearm.

Thank you. I have no report as of yet. My time is limited right now. I'll go break in the barrel Tuesday. I wont have much time to spend with it, Tuesday, either. But at least I'll get the basics taken care of.

I got the Para Elite Model. I actually had ordered the Para Tactical. I got a hell of a discount so I didn't say a word. Also why it took longer to get I imagine, too. Grin and bare it. I would have rather had a longer barrel and shorter flash hider but what the hell. Mine is an inch shorter and it handles well...from what I've played with it in the house anyway.

My quick analysis is that the gun is lighter and more compact than I had expected. Which is a fantastic thing for my use. I had never put my hands on a Para model. The full size FAL's are heavy. This is, of course, not as light as an M4, but it sure beats the hell out of an AR-10.

You're right. I'm not selling it. I had the opportunity to see the urban in action. It is damn ugly. A friend brought a CX4 Storm to a course painted up with it. However, the stuff actually tricks the eyes enough to make it blend on a scan.

I was sooooo close to canceling this order and going with Robinson Arms XCR 7.62x31. But the FAL is truly what I wanted. No I can go ahead and get that RobArms ;-)

Plan9 03-06-2010 01:21 PM

Do not buy RobArms products. Their customer service and parts are crap.

I liked the M96 but I couldn't get parts for it and it was all too proprietary.

You'd be better off dropping that money on something more common.

LoganSnake 03-06-2010 01:30 PM

Why did you have to wait almost a year to get it?

KirStang 03-06-2010 04:36 PM

After playing COD: MW2 (I know I know! So Shoot me!) and watching District 9, I have been eyeing these guns (eyeing only. My pocketbook can't take no mo!'). Please give us a range report!

Derwood 03-06-2010 05:24 PM

I only know about it from COD as well......does it just shoot in bursts like the video game?

ChrisJericho 03-06-2010 05:51 PM

It would look even better in a Multicam pattern ...................... just kidding ?

IIRC It shoots semi-automatic, just like the video game =D.

I never really took to my M1A due to it's weight and balance--how much does your FAL weigh Ruprex? How does it handle compared to say, a loaded AR15?

Oh and I vote for the Urban Mirage Flage--it looks more 'blendy' than the other Urban color--and it'll match perfectly with all the dirty snow around here :D.

Damnfinn 03-06-2010 08:11 PM

Remember to break it in properly, lubed, fire one shot-then clean the bore, repeat 10-20 times, at least 10. This will remove any milling and boring remnants and leave a true rifling.
Check online for the proper way to break in a new rifle.
I only learned about the bore technique recently after 30+ years of shooting.

Thanks Damnfinn, I'm privy.

It's not comparable to an AR-15. Since the .308 is a heaver and hotter round, it needs more steel wrapped around it. The AR's are damn light and easy to swing. This FAL is surprising light and easy to swing, too. Though not like the AR's. It kicks the shit out of the AR-10's, however. Tossing around a POF or Remington R-25 in a .308 is hard work compared to this Paratrooper FAL. I don't have the weight on it. I'll get it, though, and let you know.

Initial shooting is very promising. I only got off about 60 rounds but the grouping with open sights and only a wood block for a rest was very pleasing. I manage to get 1 1/2 groups at 100 yards. not too bad for first time shooting. Again, the gun is damn light compared to the AR-10's and the SOCOM. I'll be going to the range again as soon as it's not so muddy. I'll have a good rest and be able to spend some time with the rifle. Overall, it's awesome.

The_Dunedan 03-10-2010 05:53 PM

I think you'll be very pleased. My DSA StG-58 shoots juuuuust sub-MOA with its' favorite load, and Mom's DSA Medium Contour (sold to finance the StG-556HB) would shoot .5MOA if she did her bit with match ammo. I've always heard the reliability of folding-stock FALs could be dicky, but if -anybody- can work the bugs out, it'll be the lads at DSA. It's a beautiful rifle, mate, nicely done! Good to see another FALophile out there!

JStrider 03-10-2010 07:15 PM

Next time you're down Austin way, come shoot it!

Walt 03-20-2010 07:49 PM

I wouldn't go out of my way to buy a FAL, but thats just personal preference in a Pepsi vs. Coke kinda way. Regardless, thats a good looking rifle. It's been about 3 weeks since the OP. How does she shoot?
