Guy reveals gun to aggressive group, gets beat down.

Sounds like the guy with the gun did multiple things wrong...

Foul-mouthed suspects attack man with gun | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | Local & Regional

Quote:

SEATTLE - A man was brutally kicked and beaten late Saturday near Lake Union after he asked a group of men to watch their language and then displayed a handgun to them.

Police were called to the scene, a boat moorage dock in the 1800 block of Westlake Avenue North, at about 10:20 p.m.

Investigators learned that an argument had broken out earlier after the man asked the group to to stop using foul language and to keep down the noise, as it was a family type of place.

When the group of suspects became aggressive, the man showed them a holstered handgun and told them he feared for his safety, Seattle police said.

The suspects then rushed the victim and began beating him. One of the suspects was kicking the victim in the head while the victim was lying on the ground, investigators said.

As the man and the suspects struggled with the gun, it discharged. Nothing appeared to be hit.

The gun was kicked into water about 40 feet deep, so it was not immediately recovered.

The victim suffered extensive injuries to his face and head, and he was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

The suspects were arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.

He asked for it.

See, down here we know if you show a gun, you plan to use it. In fact you don't show it until you are aiming and firing. There are very few instances where this rules does not apply. As a citizen, you give less notice then a police officer. Once you pull, you are using it. Of course circumstances dictate the situation, but in this case, if he was carrying legally, he should have fired once they made one step closer to him, or back away to keep the peace.

Now, this all hinges on a legit situation that calls for a gun. This definitely was not one of those situations. If some losers are being rowdy in public, you just walk away. If you think it's your place to be a vigilante and move/push them elsewhere, think again.

Like I said, he got what he asked for. He should be happy he wasn't shot with his own gun.

Meh. He thought unnecessarily showing a gun would scare the d-bags in to submission. Instead, they called his bluff. Let me tell you something, pendejo. You pull any of your crazy shit with me, you flash a piece out on the lanes, I’ll take it away from you, stick it up your ass and pull the fucking trigger ‘til it goes “click.”

Masterful.

Homoerotic, even.

* * * * *

It looks like this guy watches too many Westerns. "Settle down, gentlemen, or I'll run ye outta town, ye hear?"

Sad story, really.

Seriously.

Turns out concealed carry common sense says that the piece is either in the alternate dimension of being concealed or it's indexed, skinned, in your hand, and pointed center mass. There is no dick size game involved with concealed carry. Bringing a gun into an altercation before it has reached the point where said gun is now a necessity is a great way to turn a sissy verbal shoving match into a group beatdown. Heh, guns are not magical voodoo safety talismans.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, but the people should be aware that guns are not magical voodoo safety talismans. - Jesus

Will, come now, we all know that was first said by James T Kirk before Jesus stole it ...

showing it without drawing was stupid. if you're outnumbered and up close, let it go or start shooting.

You carry a gun you better know how and when to use it. You never flash. I just feel sorry for his kids/family who had to watch in horror as he was beaten to a bloody pulp :(

Edit: or maybe his family wasn't there after rereading it. And how is a boat moorage dock at 10:20pm a family place? Sounds like there was more going on than "foul language".

silent_jay 07-06-2009 03:17 PM

I like how it went from 'watch the foul language' to 'watch the foul language, show holstered pistol, then tell them you fear for your safety?

Not nice to say but the guy who took the shit kicking deserved it IMO. I'm also confused with this whole 'family place at 10:20pm'. Just goes to show a gun doesn't make you invincible and doesn't make people automatically afraid of you.

I regularly carry a gun, and because of that I am far more cautious about getting into situations where I would have to use it. People like this guy give the responsible ones a bad name. It's not hard for anyone to learn about real world situations where you should not ever let people know you have a weapon.

You can't fix stupid, but anti-gunners look to stuff like this when they try to find reasons why I should not arm myself.
