it's time for more Gun Porn

I got a new camera.
Naturally I tested it on items of beauty.
For your viewing pleasure - here's a sampling of some of my toys.

Let's get more Gun Porn on the forums.

TodMaschine 04-22-2007 08:36 PM

Wow..... you have expensive but very very very nice taste. I'm envious of your handgun collection. I must say that I have a damn fine collection as well, but my focus has been on rifles so far, but those are the handguns that i am now longing for.....once again awesome. If your rifle collection is on par, i would love to see pics of that. Gun porn, awesome... Now i need a digi-camara...

woohog1 04-22-2007 09:00 PM

Wow, that is some top quality gun porn right there. I would love to see more!

Thanks.

My rifle collection isn't as big as my handgun collection but I do have some nice stuff. Here's the only photo I can find right now of my CQB carbine. I might have gotten a little carried away with the color balance.

It's basically a Colt AR with a few modifications: I swapped out the upper receiver for an LMT monolith - 16" barrel. The trigger is Compass Lake 2-stage. I have an Aimpoint Comp M3 sight on a LaRue mount with Troy BUIS. The stock is Magpul CTR and the grip is Magpul MAID with modified trigger guard. On the front end there's a Surefire M900A vertical foregrip with a LaRue QD mount mod. Finally it's got a Viking Tactics LR2 2-point sling that mounts directly to quick-detach points built into the stock and forend.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...bough/cqb2.jpg

If you have a sharp eye you'll notice I took this photo before my front BUIS arrived.

Coming soon:

I just purchased the "crown jewel" of my handgun collection - a commercial Colt m1911A1 from 1925 with 99%+ of it's original gorgeous blueing! It looks practically brand new with only a nick in the grips. The original owner passed it (and a few other guns) to a friend in 1963 before he passed away. The friend shelved it and never shot it at all and gave it to my favorite local gunsmith last week to sell for him. I've never seen one in such good condition - ever!

I'll have it in my hands in another few weeks (thanks to California's handgun laws I have to wait 30 days between purchases). I'll post a photo when I have it.

BTW - the fella also had another interesting item. It was a Colt Woodsman from 1947 (mint condition, of course) with original box and papers. The grips were plastic "elephant ear" type. It was pointed out to me that "elephant ears" only came in walnut (that eroded with age) - not plastic. Even the box says these grips were hand-fitted for the pistol. Technically, this gun does not exist because there's no record about these grips ever having been produced by Colt. The gunsmith is still researching it. So far my research also doesn't turn up anything about this item. It's sitting on my local gunsmith's kitchen table until he can figure out what he's got.
There was a window of opportunity of one day where I could have bought it from him for about $1700 - which seems steep at first but, if it's truly a "one of a kind" item, it'd be nearly priceless for a collector.

In any case I'm not a gun speculator - I don't buy to sell. I buy to shoot and enjoy.... You bet I'm gonna shoot my 1925 Colt m1911A1.

JStrider 04-23-2007 06:52 PM

I'll have to get some pics of my AR for this thread.

woohog1 04-24-2007 07:27 AM

All the guns that i have are your average everyday run of the mill normal stuff. No mods or add ons. I prefer to think of it as amature gun porn. Maybe if yall are into the amatuer stuff I can post some stuff. Lemme know what you think.

longbough 04-24-2007 04:15 PM

nothing wrong with a stock weapon.
There's much to be said about keeping it simple.
The gear doesn't matter as much as training anyways.
I'd love to see your stuff.

Nice item.
16" Heavy barrel
VLTOR buttstock
ERGO pistol grip
Magpul trigger guard
Tango Down vertical foregrip
EOTECH 553
Magpul rail covers
YHM (?) front BUIS?

Looks like you could use a rear BUIS.

The rug makes me think of Afghanistan.

Quite a discerning eye, I see...

14.5" registered SBR actually, you can't really make out the Vortex on the bangy end.

The rail system is actually a KAC. The front sight is a DPMS mangonell. I usually use a GG&G BUIS set, but it is locked up in the arms room on my real M-4 right now.

What you can't see is the LMT bolt and Fat Boy gas tube.

Thank you for the analysis, I actually didn't know who made the foregrip. I got it from a buddy in country.

The rug is eastern Iranian, but currently resides in my study.

I'll try to find a picture of my M-4 in country, you'll dig that.

Edit - The EOtech is a 552

thanks for the flattery but those were easy calls for anyone who owns a CQB AR

I should take a photo of mine on my rug I purchased in Istanbul

Found it. Not really that standard a configuration, but it was a tack driver: 11.5 inch SS Bull barrel (cut down and re-crowned from a burned out competition rifle).

Nice pieces! The P7M8 is something I want to start off my collection... how do you like the grip feature on it? Seems a selling point to me :D

I'm jealous of all your other guns too, of course :D

I like the squeeze cocker on it.
The good: It's a very safe gun and quick to cock. The gun very compact for a 4" barreled 9mm and ideally comfortable for CCW.
The bad: Repeated cocking/decocking can get tiresome for most hands. The pistol is fussy with ammo and gets hot quickly. It's only a 9mm. I prefer .40 or .45. (BTW- forget the .40 version (p7m10) which is a heavy block of metal - heavier than a full-sized 1911!)
If you mean to get one you should know that they've just been discontinued so you'll have to get a second-hand one. In fact mine is #357 of the last 500 built by HK:

Reminds me of an elaborately engraved antique 1911 I saw once on some website. On the left of the slide toward the business end it had a humorous inscription which read: "this end towards foe." If I can find a photo of it I'll post it.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...GIP/7mom-1.jpg

See this grin? That's her "warning" smile...the one that tells all us young whippersnappers to watch and learn. This is the lady who twice on the same day shot 3" groups at 500 yards with a Stery AUG from unsupported (looped sling) prone.

Door-prize from this year's SHOT show; the Saddam Special, a gold-plated Yugo underfolder. They even golded the folding grenade-launching sight! Currently sitting over the fireplace beside Mom's 60s-vintage Korth revolver.

debaser 06-09-2007 09:57 AM

Not bad! I hope she didn't fire the .50 from that position, shoulder reconstruction is expensive...

The_Dunedan 06-09-2007 12:23 PM

Actually, she shoots it like that pretty frequently. That bigass muzzle brake is really effective...she says it kicks even less than the M82A1 did, and the Barrett wasn't too bad that way either.

The Barrett got sold about two years ago, and she's been after another BMG ever since; the Cobb is supposedly quite a bit more accurate, being a boltgun*, and it's nearly as fast.

They did have one idiot who tried to fire a Serbu .50 standing...it's light enough to do it, but you can imagine the result I'm sure. For $5 you can buy a round of .50 to put through one of the guns; it's a great way to advertise and sell the things, but every now and again...Fortunately, the Serbu wasn't damaged. It wasn't wearing a scope at the time, just the backup irons, so the guy didn't end up having to buy it, but he did get to endure all sorts of taunts from Mom And Co. every time he came back, which wasn't often.

Edited to add: This is what happens when the woman who taught you to shoot marries your gun dealer. BTW, love the setup on your M4. That kind of CQB setup is what the AR/M16 platform is truly best at, IMO. Although what really had me drooling was the tarted-up M14. I usually prefer my FAL, but that is one nice rig.

*It's got a straight-pull action with the bolt handle on the left side of the reciever.

debaser 06-09-2007 01:44 PM

Yeah, my friend has a BA50-T, she just looks like a small woman (of course just about anyone would next to a howitzer like that...).

I'm trying to remember the make on that M-14 stock, but it eludes me. I'll get back to you when I figure it out.

The_Dunedan 06-09-2007 02:04 PM

Oh she is; 5'4 and about 120. She's absolutely lost inside her shooting jacket. She and my stepfather frequently use this to their advantage when a "manly-man" type balks at shooting the .50 after paying for it...something about seeing a tiny little lady in her fifties pound three or four rounds down just sorta motivates people...especially the ones with their wives or girlfriends along. The real fun comes when, every now and again, someone's wife or girlfriend wants to shoot it!

I'd love the info on that stock; I think they've still got a couple of M1-As lying around, and that's a sweet-looking setup. How's the cheekweld on that telescoping stock? How do you get around the lack of storage for a cleaning kit and such?

debaser 06-09-2007 03:23 PM

The stock is completely adjustable, including the cheek weld. As for storage, you would be suprised how much you can fit into a Bradley. I'll post some more pictures tonight, plus I'll trump your .50 BMG if I can find the shot...

The_Dunedan 06-09-2007 03:48 PM

What, did you guys find a PTRS over there or something? Given the wierd range of ordinance being deployed in that 12-sided brawl, I'd hardly be surprised...

I take great exception to this. Just because it doesn't arm doesn't mean it's not effective. My gunner shot a guy about 10 meters away with our Mk. 19. just amazing

I cannot beleive the content of this thread... the sight of these guns...

Coming from a country (UK) where almost no one owns guns, this thread is just amazing. All you can own here is a 'shot gun' with a barrel at least 24" long with no autoloading capability and the owner has to have a seperate license approved by the police for each individual weapon. You have to show a good reason to own one too - home/personal defense is not a reason. The police also visit to audit the storage security.

This might seem very restrictive, but we had only 50 people killed by guns in 2005/06 and the police don't carry guns (though there are special armed units available.)

...

Current project? Rebuilding an original Intratec Tec-9. Fun piece.

That's OK.

I'm putting together another AR - Mega lower with POF upper.

Plan9 11-13-2007 08:02 PM

XIX model. Made in Israel. Great target / conversation piece.

.357 or .44 is the way to go. Other cals are just masturbation.

Haha, yes... but in the DE's case... .50 AE is like $3 a pop.

Good thing my self-love doesn't cost that much... I'd be broke from this morning.

If I can find an AR lower that's legal in CT, I'm going to build one with a .50BMG upper next summer. If not, I'm getting a Serbu BFG-50.

What a bunch of crap: Crap Lower

Dude, just go with the Serbu. ;)

I'll ask:

Just bought it.. my first and only, for right now. :)

I'm getting a lot of shit that I should lose my liberal membership card for owning a gun, but alas no, I think I can hold on to both.

Seems to kick a hell of a lot more than the .45 govt..
