Survivor Knives

I have a thing for survior knives, or army knives as some call them. Just like how they look, how they feel, and all those cool little gadgets that come on them.

now i really dont see myself getting stuck in the middle of bum fuck egypt anytime soon, but i really want a new one. Advice on brands would be aweeeeesome.

Are you referring to swiss-army style multiblade folding knives? If so, then just get a swiss army knife - Victorinox brand. Alternatively, look at multitools, like the various leatherman tools available. You'll do well with either...

Nah man, im referring the the knives that usually have stuff inside of the handle like flint for starting fires, stitching kits, and other shit. The thing that has be set on these knives though are the way they look.

those knives with the screw on cap end on the handle thingy are usually crap, I've never come across one that I would consider a quality knife...

heres what I would recommend:

actually, I wouldnt get the leather handle, I like the rubberized one, and I'd get a fine edge, but I thought this one was particularly picturesque.

Also try camilus- also a gov'ment approved contractor, and cheaper, but just as tough- I think that kabar has gotten a bit pricey over the last few years, and I for one know a few farmers that swear by the camilus usaf pilots knife and the marine combat knives as cant kill em farm knives- these people own about a thousand acres in southern mo, and run cattle and horses, so they do abuse their knives, and they have tried both brands.... they say the camilus's look a bit rougher, but are more durable........

If you're interested in unusual modern military knives you might also give the Extrema Ratio (from Italy) a look. They're quite pricey. At first I thought they looked too futuristic to be practical but then I read that their bayonets were actively used in the field in Afganistan and Iraq by the Italian Army "Nibbo" contingent.

yeah- the design and function is great on the extrema blades, but oh the price- note that there are some cheapo knockoff blades out there, that at least mimic the design nicely- and then at least you dont have to worry so much about loosing or abusing them......

Personally, I'm somewhat of a purist when it comes to collecting anything - knives, guns, pens etc. I'll only get the real thing. Knockoffs are so unsatisfying because much of the enjoyment is in knowing that you have something practical - not just a fancy paperweight.

Also, all the stuff I have gets "used" - because that's what they're made for. The way I figure it - If I die tomorrow someone who gets my stuff will use it. It's a waste to have if you don't use it.

Here are a few of my knives.

Benchmade Osborne - teflon coated

Benchmade Auto Presidio (automatically deploying) - teflon coated

Benchmade mini-AFCK (I have 2 - one with with a blade of ATS-34 and the other one made of M2 high-speed tool steel - extremely tough metal.) Both teflon coated:

Emerson CQC-7B-BTS - teflon coated

Cold Steel Recon Tanto - very tough with good strong spine - very practical - epoxy coated:

*****************************************
*OK. Now that I think about it I DO have one blade that I don't use. It wouldn't be practical anyway. It's a limited edition United Cutlery Anduril Sword (the sword from Lord of the Rings) - The limited edition (#1792 of 5000) was released just prior to the release of "Return of the King" in the movie theaters. Luckily I spotted them online because the price and demand shot up after the movie. It is numbered with a signed certificate by the production designer of the blades in the movie. I bought it for less than $200 and, last I checked, folks were selling on eBay for over $600. Now I can't even find them on eBay but I'm still holding on to mine. They later made an "unlimited" version which didn't have all the detailing or the 24kt gold plated fittings or rune detailing.

This one I'm keeping in the box for now.

I like the kukri Machete

https://www.kabar.com/product_detail...itary/Tactical

theyve always felt pretty good for chopping, almost like a small hatchet and you can still do normal knife things with them...

But also I havnt owned one myself just used a friends... thought about buying one just havnt ever gotten around to it... maybe i'll grab one of the Ka bar ones. I do need a good knife to take camping, other then my benchmade pocketknife...
