Depends? What am I killing?
Squirrels or small game: My 1950-s vintage Savage .22/.410 drilling. Cheap, versatile, and dead accurate. Large game: FN-FAL in .308, throwing 168-grain Game Kings. Upland birds: .410 SxS hammer-double. Light, super-fast, and easy to handle in the thick stuff. Heavy birds: Mossberg 500 12-bore, after I fit the longer barrel. Bad Guys, CQB: Same Mossberg, with short barrel and sidesaddle. Bad Guys, General: FN-FAL in .308, with 3-9x variable optic. FMJ ball for standard and 168-grain Match Kings for long-range work. Bad Guys, Extreme Close Range: Para-Ordinance double-stack 1911. Mad Guys, Extreme Long Range: Someone else, who has the money to afford this kind of thing! |

My heart is still partial to my M-16 USMC issue and the colt 1911 .45

CZ-97B, 45 caliber twin to the Sig 210. Not really, but I dig the full length slide rails. The 97B is what the 1911 should have been. Unfortunately the ergos are not for everyone. I am picking up a minty one in october which is a challenge in Taxachusetts as they are not for sale new.
If I had to pick somethign I had it would be my Sig Sauer 226 9MM.

I'm going to have to split it between the PSG and the M82A1. I wouldn't want to pick one over the other, and I want one of each.

Of course, I think the best weapon is a mother. I mean, you point a mad mama in someone's direction and LOOK out. That's trouble! Why else would the phrase, "Don't make me tell yo mama" impart such fear in so many people.

like the other guy said... my favourite weapon would be the one best suited to do the job in hand.
In my situation... the only weapon I prolly will need is to defend my home if someone wants to break in. I live in a country where there is not wholesale gun ownership, so I wouldnt need a gun to defend myself... I'd prolly go with a nicely weighted 7 iron. If anyone busts into my flat, a couple of nice swings and they'd be sorry for it. I wouldnt want to kill or main someone... but in the cause of defence I'd like to be able to carry enough damage to take someone out of the game. So, a nicely weight short iron would do me, as long as you dont swing at the vital area's it shouldnt be fatal, but it would do a job. But if I wa facing a polar bear or something... I'd want a big gun obviously...

I agree with many of the posts here: The human mind is the best weapon, as well as in the case of specific situations call for different weapons.
For long range, I loved my M82A1 Light 50. For medium range, M249 SAW. For combat action, Colt M16A3 with M203 grenade launcher. For short, home defense, I LOVE my Ruger P89 (9mm pistol). For short, close combat, the M1014 Joint Service Shotgun.

Sweetpea,
Try wrapping your paw around a sub-compact Springfield XD. They're superb guns, striker-fired just like the Glock, with extra safety features ( but no manual ) and they're -much- more comfortable, IMO. The Glock is rock-solid reliable, though, and I don't know much about the XD yet; it's a fairly new platform compared to the Glock, after all. |

My Glock 23 is the most dependable item in my arsenal! I have some Kimber 1911s, a couple of S&W 1911s, HK USP-C and others but my Glock is the most practical item I have. Recently I got a Surefire x200B light attachment for it. Terrific light and very little bulk.

I was a bit drunk when I was going on about hitting people with a 7 iron.
If i was sober I would have said a butterfly knife. It's just this thing I have. Next best would be a chrome .44 and a metal bat. In a tough corner... you might have to make do with hurling your car keys into someone's face from point blank... or if youre lucky a claw hammer.... Quote:
from my own (perhaps limited) experience. best home defence = a fat man wearing nothing but boxer shorts running screaming out the front door with a cricket bat. (this only happened one time)

My CQB rifle is basically a Colt AR with a few modifications: I swapped out the upper receiver for an LMT monolith - 16" barrel. The trigger is Compass Lake 2-stage. I have an Aimpoint Comp M3 sight on a LaRue mount with Troy BUIS. The stock is Magpul CTR and the grip is Magpul MAID with modified trigger guard. On the front end there's a Surefire M900A vertical foregrip with a LaRue QD mount mod. Finally it's got a Specter 3-Point sling in GG&G adapters.
here's a pic I took today (I processed the photo a bit for dramatic effect). My front BUIS is being sent to me. My next project is going to be another AR built from a Mega stripped lower - this time I'm using a POF gas piston upper (it just arrived after waiting 4 months). It's going to have the RRA 2-Stage trigger. Like the other rifle it'll have a Magpul MAID with the modified trigger guard, but the stock will be the ACE USSOCOM stock. The optics will be EoTech 553 (just came in) and on the front I'm trying to get a LaRue Battlelight with a Troy vertical grip ... but that part might change. The funny thing is ... If you met me you probably wouldn't guess I might be a "gun-nut." I'm an articulate, responsible, nice guy who doesn't project neuroses - I'm great with kids and I love people. As a physician I believe I'm making the world a better place every day - and I love my job. I like guns because when I was a kid a cop and his partner befriended me and taught me a lot about personal responsibility by teaching me the proper handling and maintenance of firearms. I still have cop friends to this day and take courses in small arms tactics ... just to keep me well rounded. But my first line of defense is still my border collie, Albert. I love him to pieces!

Springfield XD9, (imo) best polymer pistol on the market. Excellent reliability, high capacity, accurate, and ergonomics superior to the Glock in most shooters hands (weird austrian grip angle). Plus 15+1 doublestack capacity without needing lumberjack hands to grip it comfortably.

I'll take my Glock 23 (with 15+1 of .40S&W) any day of the week. The Glock has a lower bore axis so the muzzle flips less than the XD when shooting. I must say the XD has a good reputation in the field so far, but the Glock has been around long enough to establish a solid track record of quality and reliability ... They're both excellent guns.
