jobs for a gun enthusiast

What are some jobs that would be good for someone highly interested in weaponry, expecially firearms?

shakran 03-22-2006 06:27 PM

just off the top of my head. . .a gun shop?

;)

gun smith, machinist for a gun manufacturer, range manager, gun safety instructor, shooting sports referee, I'd say if your mechanically inclined that becoming a gun smith is going to be the most lucrative

Yea, I was kind of hoping to do something with firearms in mind while not losing benefit of a college degree.

debaser 03-23-2006 03:18 AM

Infantry officer.

Digilogic 03-23-2006 04:43 AM

Can you give me a description of what exactly that is?

cj2112 03-23-2006 04:48 AM

Infantry officer = military career...
What's your degree in?

debaser 03-23-2006 08:16 AM

As an infantry platoon leader, the first position you would hold as an infantry officer in the United States Army, you would be responsible for the training, equipment and tactical employment of a 40 man infantry platoon. You would be trained on the M9 pistol, M-4 rifle, M-249 and M-240B machine guns, among other weapons.

You would also be almost as cool as a cavalry officer... :D

Computer Science Degree. Its what I can naturally do, but not necessarily what I wanna do with my life.

ziadel 03-25-2006 07:01 AM

I'd hit the Airborne.

Charlatan 03-25-2006 08:26 AM

You could work in a museum that collects firearms...

I'm suprised no one's mentioned being a hitman. That's what I would do if I was a gun enthusiast who needed something to do.

Firearms would be tools of last resort if I were a hitman. Too noisy and too much evidence tieing me to a crime. A blunt object and a knife would have the same effect. I might make an exception for a .22 rifle with a soda bottle on the barrel and maybe a .22 straight to the cranium, but guns aren't all they are cracked up to be. Sides, a good hit is like a good business. Location location location.

Ooops, this is Kel posting as Acetylene again.

Currently serving a co-op (I'm in school for Materials Engineering) with a ballistic materials supplier, there's definitely a demand for some type of range simulation software. It would be incredibly useful to simulate some of our shooting to reduce the strain on our range. Granted it can never replace real testing but it would be a useful tool and you could use your degree.

Hell, there are ways to get yourself into the firearms industry. I'm sure these companies need computer support of some kind, it wouldn't be direct involvement but you could at least get your foot in the door.
