I think my motherboard just fried!! Serious help needed....

I think the worst just happened. I came home to find my computer was running, but the monitor light was just flashing. Switching the computer on/off only resulted in the fans starting up but nothing after that. Nothing shows up on the screen, no boot screen, nothing. I unplugged all the peripherals so it is only the HD and that's it. Made sure the HD was set to master. same thing. I have to 512 ram sticks in a dual-ddr setup, I tried one at a time and I switched them to see if it was the ram that's faulty, nothing. I'm assuming it's not the monitor since I can't hear anything happen except for the fans start up in the box, all the little led lights on the boards and drive started up as well.

At this point I'm only ruling the motherboard could be causing this. I've been using this for almost 4 years now.

Any experts on this, the only things left I'm thinking is the cpu. If it's the cpu that's fried would I at least see a boot up screen?

Any other ideas?? I've never dealt with this type of problem before so I'm stumped. If its the motherboard, what do you recommend to switch with this current model. I'm using the Asus P4P800DX. I did a quick search online and it looks like this is still in production, but there are some newer ones out there too now.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I just tried starting up the pc with the speaker cables plugged into the onboard sound. A scary sounding robot woman is saying "system failed cpu test".

I'm guess this means the cpu's dead doesn't it? Any advice from here?

Because of the error message that you got, have you tried reseating the cpu/heatsink?
If you are/were able to get into the bios i would check to see if your cpu isn't being detected properly or if it was overclocked.

Yeah, that'll be a bad processor. You can try reseating it to see what happens; if that's no joy then you're probably just looking at swapping that sucker out.

On the plus side, after four years it's probably time for an upgrade. You may be able to find a new processor second-hand for dirt cheap, depending on your setup. The socket A Athlons, for example, are all over the freakin' place.

Do you know what model board you have? I've heard beep codes quite a few times in my career, but the digitized voice is new to me.
