I recently installed 250gig sata drive. I partitioned it into 3 logical drives. After moving some files from other drives I performed a defrag on each partition. This is when I noticed that many gigs of space were Reserved System Space (RSS). I totalled over 20gig of hard drive space being used on the this drive for this (RSS). Any idea why this is happening and how to claim that space back. Any help will be appreciated.

NTFS reserves a default 12.5% for MFT storage. The "MFT Zone." (A MasterFileTable is the database of files, their locations, and attributes, plus volume information.) If you run out of disk space before the MFT needs its reserved space then files will begin to use the previously reserved MFT space. The reason for reserving the space is to reduce MFT fragmentation, which is good since the database is used continually.
