DVD Ripper problem out of the blue

So after using this without a problem for over a year, all of a sudden when I insert a store-bought DVD, my DVD ripping program doesn't work.

It gives me the message Access violation at address 00462E2B in module 'DVD43_Tray.exe' .(my ripping program). Read of address 00000004.

I have no idea what that means, although I assume it's some kind of memory conflict. I haven't installed anything new.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled my DVD burner. Uninstalled DVD43, rebooted, reinstalled the latest version. No dice. I tried several of my DVDs, and some work okay, while others have the above problem.

I would say it's a new type of protection, but I used the same ripper and burning program on another (slower, with less memory) computer, and it worked okay.

Anyone have any ideas?

From I was able to find it may be a DVD region problem
check the region of the disk and your player

"went the order you told me too and it's still the the same problem. I hear the DVD spinning for a few seconds. The DVD43 stays yellow devil face and when i click on it it says "access violation at address 00462E2B in module 'DVD43_Tray.exe'.Read of address 00000004". When i right click on it to close it out i hear a beep and will not let me close it out so it stays on the yellow devil face even after i eject the movie. Same thing when i try to reboot it gives me the same beep noise and i have to manually press the off button to reboot."

I had that happen too with Star Wars Episode 2. The problem was the region code on the DVD drive. I live in Australia(Region 4) but my DVD drive was region 2(don't know why maybe made overseas) I hadn't had any problems before this.
What you do if you got Windows XP is
go into my computer and right click your DVD then click on properties.
Then click on the hardware tab then select your DVD drive from the list and click on properties then DVD region and change it to where you are( just look at your BOB DVD to find the region).
Hope this helps
I wouldn't go changing regions on your DVD drive willy nilly
Mine only allows for three changes ever.
I have heard about software that will
simulate a region change...
I don't know any names though

Wow. I was editing my post to make it more clear, and you had already replied. The symptoms you describe are EXACTLY what I'm experiencing. I had to kill the ripping program via a utility before it would even let me eject the DVD.

Nice to know I'm not alone. I just wonder why it started happening all of a sudden, and why the older computer doesn't have the same problem.

The only thing I can think of
the region code for the older machine
is not as strict..or open.
or a new anti-fair use code
in the newer machine
I keep a box of all my old hardware
just in case of a situation like this.
