Cheap portable DVD player
So I got the aforementioned cheap DVD player for Christmas (oops) the Holiday Season.
It isn't a bad little guy for $89. The 7" screen has an acceptable picture. The sound is tinny, but it came with cords to run into a TV, which is my plan. When I travel, sometimes I just go back to the hotel and do some work. Because I'm cheap, I don't usually want to pay $10 to watch a movie provided by the hotel's system. It also ties up my laptop if I watch the DVD on it. Therefore, I will probably just run the little player through the room TV while happily working, or surfing the net on my laptop. Now for my question: It has worked fine on every DVD I've tried except one. When I play "Caddyshack" (the store-bought one) there is no sound. I have duped DVDs and they play fine on it. However, even a DVDShrink dupe of Caddyshack has no sound on the player, although it has sound on my laptop and my DVD deck connected to my TV. Does anyone have a clue on this one? Possibly it should be in Tilted Electronics, but I've seen some in-depth DVD knowledge here.

Caddyshack is monaural AC3, but otherwise it's unremarkable. (content notwithstanding "It's no big deal.") You could be running into a strange downmix bug. If it has an audio setup menu try the different options among downmix, 2channel, mono, etc. Try the headphone jack as well as RCA out.
