Do any people build CRYSTAL SET RADIOs anymore?
I get a flyer from the FAIR RADIO SALES Company in Lima,Ohio
and it is mostly full of old Army surplus radio stuff but the latest ad sheet shows a pair of items that might be of interest to crystal set builders or antique radio hobbyists. (1.) A kit of parts to build a crystal set:10 sided loop antenna, germanium detector diode,3 plate sliding capacitor, etc.: Selling for $27.95 and (2.)Crystal Receivers Book; 48 pages. Experimental crystal set info from 1911 and 1912, letters from builders and ideas on how to build the things used in a crystal radio set.:$6.95 cool: IF anyone is interested their website is :www.fairradio.com |

I built one for scouts about 10 years ago, but it didn't work. If someone makes a working crystal set radio let us know.

I used to build crystal sets back in the 1950s.
Here is some more info on modern xtal sets. http://www.midnightscience.com/ Schematic example of a good design. http://www.aldenmcduffie.com/CrystalSet402.html Minimum requirement for a xtal set. Last edited by flat5; 12-28-2005 at 03:07 PM.. |

Thanks for the info. Looks like your site is better than the one I posted about and might be what Gatorade Frost was looking for. Seems like their radio kits are just what I would have wanted to build .....a few years ago. Thanks. |

I built one of these at an electronics fun class after a meeting of my local Ham Radio club when I was a teenager about 10 years ago. The one I built is pretty much identical to the schematic posted above. They're crude, but super fun to build / play with!
