opening multiple ports in my firewall?
Hey I was just wondering how I would add ports 6881-6999 on windows firewall? I figured out how to open one port at a time but can't seem to figure out multiple ports.
Thanks in advance. ![]()

I don't use windows firewall.....something about windows protecting windows.
However with tiny personal firewall, zonealarm pro, and my router you have an area for a port range. I fount the following quote at: http://kbase.gfi.com/showarticle.asp?id=KBID002139 Quote:

Windows' firewall is not outstanding.
Pick up Kerio's free Personal Firewall. It's being acquired by Sunbelt this month but you can still download it from Kerio's site: http://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html It works as the full version for 30days then loses a few of the advanced features. Kicks Microsoft's firewall all around the room.

+1 vote for kerio, but I use the 2.15 version.
supposedly it's better than the newer versions, according to a bit of research I did @ broadbandreports.com security forum.

2.2 added some powerful application level security but the first couple releases were on the aggressive side. Codecs gave it a real headache.

kerio is an excellent firewall!!
well worth the money. It was formally known as tiny personal firewall which was freeware. you can still find the last freeware version at: http://www.321download.com/LastFreew...nal%20Firewall less advanced than the newer versions......but freeware.

Yep, it's gained a few goodies since the tiny split. The basic version of the newest kpf is still free for non-commercial use. It installs as the full version and if not licensed within 30 days, reverts to basic. I've bought it for a few systems, let it expire to basic on others. Depends on the user and level of control needed.

fixup protocol 80 http .....oh wait, those are for access-lists. You could always get a pix 501 or 506e. Hah, sounds like you're trying to open up ports for Bittorrent. Don't use the default ports. Tell your BT client to use a port like 10500 and higher, and you only need to open like 6 or so. One port for each torrent incoming. ISPs like to block port 6881-6889 specifically to keep you from using BT. I recommend Azureus, highly configurable.
Also, as far as the firewall goes, disable the Windows Firewall service all together, and use Kerio or Zone Alarm.

I would recommend using XBT , http://xbtt.sourceforge.net/ .
It's much lighter on your RAM than Azuerus is (since Azureus loads JAVA). If you need protection that the safepeer plugin provides (for those of you who don't use it, you should) you could use PeerGuardian2, located at http://phoenixlabs.org/ instead.

gah I've tried other firewalls and always have problems with them, I don't have these problems with windows firewall. Maybe it's because it doesn't work as well as the others, but quite frankly I don't care. When I try to open ports up I only see an option to open one at a time.

For configuring any hardware-type firewall, go here -> PortForward.com . Select your hardware type, your application, and you're off! Yes, change the port numbers. Go to 45666 or something. Azureus uses only one port, so it makes configuration lots easier as well (using their own config tool to check open ports.....). Good luck. Last edited by jujueye; 01-14-2006 at 01:24 PM.. |
