Outlook Minimization Help

I'm starting to use Microsoft Outlook as my choice for a calendar and for notes for myself, but at the moment I'm having trouble with having it open.

I don't know if there's a way to do it, but if there is, does anyone know of a way that I could make Microsoft Outlook minimize to the System Icons (like AIM, Google Desktop, my Firewall, etc.) without actually being on my task bar? I've searched in the Outlook help and found nothing.

If there's not an in-program way of doing this, could I use another program that would keep Outlook open (enough to keep my Notes open and pop up with a reminder that I need to go do something)?

ver 2003 does it automatically. 2002 I'm not finding it doing it automatically...

Hm. Well, are there any external programs out there that anyone knows of that would manage programs in the background for me?

If not, I'll just buy Microsoft Office 2003, but I'd prefer not to deal with that; sometimes it's good to be a student.

You should see both an icon in the taskbar as well as the system tray (where you see AIM, etc.). Right click on the icon in the system tray and select "Hide when minimized". Now, use the minimize button in the upper right hand corner of the Outlook window to minimize to system tray. You should no longer see it in the task bar.

Remember, if you click the X in the upper right hand corner, it will still close Outlook all together.

Note: This assumes you are using Outlook 2003

If you're using Outlook 2000 you need to create this registry key and set the value of MinToTray to 1.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences]

"MinToTray"=dword:00000001

How exactly do I do that...? I've never actually altered the Registry, and I'd rather do it right instead of crashing Outlook for good.
